I have a cracked alternator casing, so does anyone know of an alternative to the original?
TIA

the alternator will only output what is demanded or as v8250 suggested strip of the case and get it tig welded

Braze would would work but a good tig welder can weld the casing - only potential issue is that alternator casings are not a very dense alloy...so may be a braze would be better.

I'd second replacing the case, or you may be lucky and TIG weld the crack .... To braze it you'll need Oxy Acetylene or a very good propane torch - plenty of guides on the web ... The thing that would make me nervous of welding or brazing it, is that the precise alloy is unknown ....

You might be able to buy the case parts from mid ulster rotating electrics:-

No affiliation - just a very satisfied customer :)

That eBay listing says that it is rated at 100 amps.
Is that not too much for the Wolf's 50 amp system?

100 amps at 12 V is 1200 watts - 50 A at 24 V is ..... 1200 watts ... ;)

the alternator will only output what is demanded

+1 :)
