I have a 1996 Range Rover 2.5D. Which i have an intermitent problem with it, when accelarating there will be a loss of power, like a blip in the accelaration then will accelarate ok. When this occurs a yellow light comes on like an arrow and spray. It also comes on with the ignition when starting. I have had the codes read on it, which came up with fault code 136 - Flow Actuator control intermitent.... invalid signal. Any one out there got any suggestions what to try to rectify the problem?

Hopeing someone can help

I could be something to do with the injector sensor... take a look at the middle injector (the one with the wire) and check make sure its well connected.

136 fuel quantity control, the fuel quantity control is the top part of the diesel pump. you cant buy the part on its own unless you get a second hand one and fit it yourself, infact theres one on ebay now and its only at a fiver. easy to change aswel, takes about 15 mins.

Thanks for the reply's will have a look and try and source fuel quantity control from ebay. Unable to find one as yet, must have already gone.

If it fits and your current one is buggered, I'll buy it off you, it can be a rat in my project.

Hi there,

Recived the part today, thanks for the suggestions, and proceeded to fit it. Started first time but would not idle. Tried various things but to no avail. Resorted to fitting the old Fuel pump top only for the Ranger to do the same start then not idle at all. Now i cant start the thing, and there doesn't seem to be any fuel coming through to the injectors at all. Wondering whether the pump has finally given up and that's why it will not start? any ideas?

did you mark the relative postion of the top and the pump? the top section is on a slide system so you can move it back and forth, moving it forward reduces fuel while moving it backwards increases fuel. only tiny movements make a big difference to the fueling, it sounds to me like you need to put the replacement top back on and move the top by very small amounts until you get the fueling correct. too little fuel and it wont run, too much and it will rev its little ring off.

Have know resorted to replacing the pump, for a second hand unit. The job went fine with everything seeming to go in place correctly ensuring getting the timming correct. Then adjusted pump timing slightly to get the engine to run. Got the engine running ok idle's sweet but knocks like hell on accelaration. Have tried movint the pump timming to no avail. Any ideas? reckon i might have a fualty pump?

No the timming was not set with dial gauge but we did move the pump accross the range with minimal movement with no real effect. Par from the knocking reducing slightly. Realise that this is critical but have tried accross the range.
