Ta! May as well treat myself to a new bonnet release cable....which finally snapped...note the high quality/carefully crafted temporary release system...

You joke about the high quality temporary cable but I have used a similar setup for years. I gave up after the cables kept snapping and just tidied up the temporary fix using a couple of the wire block connectors to create a loop to pull.
