hi all, i was wondering if anyone could help or shed any light on this probolem im having with these headlights! its a 1995 4.0 p38 rangerover, witch has been standing for a few years, on someones drive way,but we have been using it for a good few months now! i have noticed that the headlights go out when they like, they seem to have a mind of thair own sometimes, but it seems to be just the dipped beam, as sidelight and meain beam are trouble free! last night they were fine, as it wasnt damp and it wasnt morning ither, this is when they seem to go out,or the dipped beam just dosent come on! I have put a new headlight switch in thinking the connection may have been abit corroded inside, because it has been sitting a while, but it has made no differenace! i was thinking along the lines of a relay maby or a bad earth! has anyone else ever had this probolem, if so what was the probolem and how was it fixed? also would anyone be able to tell me where the headlight relay is,because i cant find it under the bonnet or under the drivers seat?

thanks everyone, tom!

The headlamps are switched via the BeCM....check your drivers footwell for damp as it could be moisture in the BeCM causing an issue.

Also a good check of the earths would be a good idea too.

No relay as I say above it is switched via the BeCM (Which is were the surface mount relay is located inside it)

You is getting quickerer and quickerer. ;);)

yea all the bulbs are okay and all in securely! thankyou for all the input,i did think they would be controlled by something expensive and technical like a bcm! wouldent be simple and have a relay its a p38! i presume the bcm is located under the drivers side footwell or in the dash somewhere! this is the side that gets damp! thanks for the input, i will do some investimigating!

thanks guys! :D

Under the drivers seat....if you have damp carpets in the drivers side, my guess is the BeCM is damp inside causing havoc, sort the the leak which is no doubt o rings and dry out the BeCM and carpets as much as you can!!!

Surface mounted relay WTF:confused:
The headlights are switched by MOSSFETS in the BECM:)

True, more or less, but they aint surface mount Ant and a bit more complicated as they also monitor current flow:)

Does that mean Mosfets can be relayed upon? Their ability to know whether the tide is coming in or going out is remarkable. :D:D:D
