1994 300tdi new chassis or...

I've got a 300tdi that's been shoved behind a barn and SORN for three or so years. It needs a new chassis and footwells. It runs fine and I occasionally us it on my small holding to move stuff.

I just don't know if I should flog it on as a project, strip it for bits or get a new chassis and sort it out. It owes me nothing.

Really I'd like a buggy for me and my son to play on and had considered getting a whitbread space frame chassis and just moving the running gear. Maybe I'm best selling and putting cash to something else.

Appreciate anyone's suggestion on best move etc

Depends what condition its in put some pictures up of it and some of the bad bits also.
but 300tdi defenders genuine ones are getting rarer by the day.

If you dont want it, sell it complete. Dont bother doing it up to sell - its hard enough to find motivation with long projects anyhow, and doing it, essentialy, for someone else will be time consuming.

Dont strip it - youll do better selling complete, unless all the bits are especially shiny, which, i expect, they are not.

Think how much your son could learn if he was involved with a rechassis , and you can always sell it later.

There a hell of a lot of work in a re-chassis ! unless you plan on keeping it awhile id sell as is

All the above contain good advice.

I suggest that, if you are going to sell, sell it complete, and buy a scrap D1 for the running gear for the "whitbread space frame thingy". probably more cost effective too...

Replacing the chasison a 90 can be done over a long weekend ... OK, they were
long days with few breaks, but we started at 15:00 on the Friday, and she was completed just before 19;00 on the Monday!
If you get a plan, it's only a big Meccanno set!

I thought about doing the rechassis with my son but he's only young. When he's in his teens then this would be more fun. I sold it in the end for a fair price and used half the cash to buy a v8 efi challenge buggy for us to drive round the field on.

While I agree it's possible. The reality is, that probably isn't true for most people. There is a lot involved and things can, and do go wrong. Or you find other things that need doing once you've taken some bits apart.
