I have recently purchased a 1993 Defender 110. It has a galvanised chassis, an engine upgrade to a 300tdi, raised by a couple of inches.
It has 5 seats and two benches in the back - standard stuff.
We struggling to get insurance and any we have found so far seems extremely expensive. Anyone got any ideas?

Heritage Insurance have always been good for me..

My 92 Defender 110 is with them, 200TDI, HD springs £150 ish a year.
 
You need a “Classic” policy which are a lot cheaper
They will often want it to be a second car though and not your main vehicle
They will usually do agreed value as well, which is really good with Defenders as the price guides bear no resemblance to actual prices

As post #6, ask for a classic vehicle policy it should be far cheaper. I think it needs to be 25yr old to qualify which yours is just.
 
You can also get a “Modern Classic” policy now although it’s not as cheap as a “Classic” policy.
The advantage again is agreed value. My pristine 2005 110 CSW is insured for £18,000
Which is likely what it would cost me to get another one as good.
Rather than the £12,000 that the guides say l’d need.
Sure l could get one for that but not in the condition this one is in.
 
I've got my 90 covered with nfu, no mechanical modifications, but rear seats fitted (in a hardtop) about £250 per year iirc. Is yours actually a csw? I couldn't get cover with the mainstream insurers for mine.
 
I can’t seem to get anyone to look at it because it has 9 seatbelts. 5 standard and 4 on the bench seats. That said the bench seatbelts are proper double strap chest harness ones.
