So to monitor the state of the engine whilst the cam is being run in.. I've gone and bought some gauges and sensors just to make sure 100% I know whats what. Coolant temperature, Oil pressure and a tachometer because from last time, I couldn't get the dash one to work properly, so will investigate that later. But, important to make sure it doesn't get too hot (if for some reason it does), something to monitor the oil pressure and then tacho to keep it at 2.5k rpm whilst cam/tappets bed in!

Also wired up a few relays for the fuel pump and gauges.

Three relays, one to switch a 12V live on the ignition, then one relay feeds off the crank signal, so switches the switched 12V when cranking, then the third relay latches when cranking, and feeds power to the fuel pump.

So...

Ignition off, nothing.
Ignition on, switched 12V on.
Cranking, feeds power to fuel pump and then latches a relay.
Engine running no cranking, relay latched to keep fuel pump running
Switch ignition off, everything turns off

Also used a spare plug from an EFI loom, so plugged it into there rather than butchering wires. Doing it right the first time!

Finally got all the coolant lines hooked up, vacuum lines done. All bolts on water pump, pulley tensioner fitted, all belts done. etc etc.

I'm so bloody close to the first start after top end rebuild!!! Missing one very important thing though. :(

I've misplaced the bloody oil sump bolt... so I can't fill it with oil. ARGH! One on order and still looking for the missing one!

Also started on the handbrake today. It uh... doesn't work. Any guesses as to why... ;)

Now where did those new handbrake shoes go...

Cheers! :D:D:D

Soooo... today seemed like a good idea to fit these two 12" electric fans, because I had them and never had a viscous one in the first place... Started with some CAD (cardboard aided design - project binky anyone?).. Going well, need to make a weld. Gas bottle empty. So is the other one. Bugger! Oh well. Will get those filled up tomorrow and get the fans fitted and wired up.

ABOUT BLOODY TIME!

Well... Completely bricking it today, everything sorted. First turn of key with spark plugs out to check oil pressure, pressure came up nice and fine. Nothing blew up so far.

Spark plugs back in, turn key.... HOLY **** IT FIRED UP. Kept at 2.5k for 20 minutes, checking for leaks, topping up coolant, oil pressure good.

The result.

Uhh, there are some wires that need tidying up, and a few bits laying around the RRC. But other than that. :D

And yes, I need to sort out that rocker breather, the filter like that just won't work. Into the inlet it goes with the flame traps like its supposed to! D'oh!

RIGHT! (left...)

Anyway, back from university for the summer and back to spannering on the RRC in between work.

A friend has been helping out over the past few days and everything is so much easier when there are two pairs of hands around! Brake master cylinder replaced and brakes rebled. Lots of little bits and fettling getting sorted, head lining is ready to be fitted after sorting out the interior lights wiring and speaker wiring etc etc. Seat belt mounts sorted and replaced seat belts. All little things but all getting done!

Engine still starts and purrs nicely. ;)

Handbrake going back together tomorrow or within the next few days, couldn't get that done last time as had to go back to university...

Progress is progress though. :cool::cool::cool:

Appreciate the comments! Cheers!

Got the headlining in today, being an aftermarket two piece it was a lot easier. Sadly in the removal and being refitted, the foam between the fibreglass and cloth is disintergrating so it is sliiighhttly sagging in a few places now. Bugger! Not sure I want to remove it and recover it now! Just want an MOT!

Been making progress. Honest! Just... keep forgetting to upload pics. :(

Lets finish that handbrake shall we?

Found the other screw the next day, it was dark and I put it down never to be found that night!

The brake master cylinder was shot. So had to replace it and bleed the brakes. Again. They work now! And don't leak! :D

Front bump stops required attention.

Also had a slight distraction with a friends tractor...

Its a very strange thing, its missing four cylinders and appears to have these things called "leaf springs"??? Heaven knows what they are. Anyway, I try not to associate myself with such absurd things.

Intending to rectify this:

I ended up rebuilding the entire front end of the chassis. New dumb irons either side! Yes really, they rotted from the inside out and lots of chassis between the bulkhead and front cross member...

Right well.. glad thats over! Back to the RRC! ;)

A lot of progress happened without pictures happening, friend back to help for a while and we started throwing some paint at it(Game for you lot, if you can guess what colour it is, you will get purchased your choice of beer/cider/drink of choice! ... within reason. ;)) and fitting the panels, testing the lights, bolting bumpers on...

KMJzN4t.jpg

Things left before I can book an MOT... :O

Windscreen wiper fiasco.
Washer jets (in the post!)
Scuttle filter/vents.
Tailgate still needs reskinning and painting.
Rear bumper has to go on.
Finish bolting panels down (front wings at the bottom aren't done yet)
...
Book MOT.

So guys, common list of failures on MOT, what should I be checking, double checking and triple checking.... ?
