Okay this was actually done yesterday and is pretty much the last of the welding.

Don't worry I cut around the black line & removed the wheel. Don't want to weld my tyres...

This err... isn't so good.

I think I'm beginning to like this colour...

So as for welding, I think the only bits left really is anything I haven't found. (Which if I'm honest the only thing I haven't taken out is the dash and the scuttle panel... what will I find behind here, worth taking off?) and I have to rebuild the lateral supports under the aluminium boot floor.

Then I should get on with putting it back together and cleaning everything else up!

:D

Had to remove a 'thing' that was wired in to control some spot lamps that were on the bullbar... spotlamps gone now so wiring not needed.

Weapon of choice!

This was where the side light had been spliced into, but it wasn't just stripped back then soldered, it had been cut then joined?

Nicely repaired. 8)

This is what I removed... Free relay!

Decided that I prefer 2 door RRC bumpers without the bumper end caps.

So why not make my own?

Not too bad considering the 2 door bumpers hug closer to the wings...

Might grind the edges down a bit more though.

Thanks! I also love it... sometimes.

Who knew one little hole could extend so far?

Was planning on modifying my rear bumper to look like a 2 door. Done the front so gotta do the rear. Then I thought, Oh I'll just patch up that hole. Cue taking the inner wing off to get to all the rot. :(

Took the flap disc on the grinder to the inner wing, cold galv spray (trying something different rather than all of it red oxide!) and seam sealed.

First I rebuilt the bulkhead (sorry no pictures, got carried away!) then welded a new wing mount on the bulkhead. Still need to fit a reinforcing bar or something in the wing and onto the bulkhead to replace the bit of box section that had rotted out. Will do that with a length of 6mm (see below) and bolt it on.

And today I made a battery clamp! Using some 6mm thick steel from an old girder type thing. Everything needs painting black!

Thanks Classicdriver & lorri! :D

Thought I would make a start on the brakes as they could do with a strip clean and replace anything that needs replacing.

Then wish I hadn't. :(

Finally got the pads out and the caliper off...

Painted the inside and underneath so there's very little to no red oxide/cold galv spray left anywhere...

Got a bit happy and caused some runs, need to sand it back and do it again.

Got to sort out the horizontal boot floor mounts, fettle the mounts on the chassis (bits that hold the horizontal supports and also the shock absorber mounts)... then hook up the fuel lines properly... also brakes, gotta get new brake parts.

Glad to see another classic saved from the scrap yard, great thread and a very good build from what I have seen so far.

Its funny how these RRC threads start with ' I just thought i needed to do a few little things till I investigated a little further' I know mine did.

If you need any silly bits for yours I have a 1988 Vogue se getting gradually smaller, I have still got most of the interior and the dash parts left intact and had a message today of a 3.5efi and box coming out of a Rangy if you wanted a replacement lump for yours which can still be driven around.
