Hi all, as the title says I’ve just bought a one owner 1983 One Ten County V8. I’m picking it up Saturday and will start pouring in money and hopefully taking out enjoyment. I know nothing about the oily bits of cars really but loved this particular car since I was a boy, I had the chance to buy it and jumped at it. I’ve booked it into a specialist for a service, any recommendations as to what I should definitely do. Will try to keep the car fully original. It does sound lovely.

Welcome:)

definitely enjoy it:)

rust is usually the worst enemy.

put some pics up when you get it for us all to ogle :D

Have a good look at the chassis. Do whatever needs doing to protect it, especially if you plan using it through the winter. Also, fit some security to it. Post some pics please. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Hi Col,

Thanks for the welcome. I’ll ask the garage to assess the chassis. This is very much a hobby car so I’ll keep off the salty roads. What is the best thing to do to preserve the chassis? Also what are the most important security measures? I’ve been looking at cheap trackers. I have also been advised to add a hidden fuel pump cut off switch. Any particular security recommendations?

There are some folk on here who spray their chassis with waxoyl and other such products. Chassis usually rust from the inside so it's important to spray inside also. However, there isn't much point in spraying a protective substance on top of rust, so if there is any, it should be treated first. My landy is a 1977 series 3 station wagon with its original chassis. It has never been treated apart from whatever Landrover did to it when it was made. My feeling is, for the effort and cost of cleaning and treating the chassis every year or two, I'd rather replace the blasted thing every 20-40 years with a galvanised one, my chassis will probably outlive me anyway. As for security, there are many threads on this forum on the various security recommendations. I don't really have any other than most of the time, the battery is disconnected, it literally only takes me a few seconds to reconnect. Also, there is usually another car blocking it in.

Congratulations.:)
Wonderful find. There is nothing like a 1983 v8 bubbling along. I had one of the last 1983 109 V8s, Sally nº ever 109 v8 Stage one and now a 1983 Rangie.

Thanks Col I’ll do a search

Defo get a good steering lock.
Ive found 110 csw chassis are vulnerable to rust blow the second row floor area. Give the chassis a good coat of waxoyl. I wouldn’t be to bothered about waxoyling inside the chassis, they don’t generally rust to badly internally and the chassis is full of strengthening webs which makes it very difficult to do

Hi and welcome!

A very smart 110! And a good investment, especially if you keep it quite standard. Definitely invest in some decent security too.

In my experience, dinitrol is very good for preserving the chassis but you need to ensure it’s rust free first. And hose te chassis off after each winter.

I intend to keep it fully standard, replacing with original parts where needed. I've just bought a tracker and have put a steering lock on it and it's in a locked barn. I'll be upset if it goes, can't see me finding another one like it.
