1980 S3, Lucas 45D dizzy, points keep melting

I've just fitted the second set of new points and condenser to my Lucas 45D distributor. The first new set lasted about two miles before the plastic heel that contacts the cam, melted where it joins the metal arm of the actual points. I fitted a second set today, ran the engine for maybe a minute, and the same thing happened again!
 
There's something wrong on the low tension circuit. You've changed out the HT circuit but there is a problem somewhere. Not experienced that. Dodgy coil?
 
The only thing I can think that would do this would be if the live was connected directly to the points and not via the coil. You should only have two wires on the coil, white to the + terminal and black/white to the -.
 
Are you sure that the coil is correct?

The resistance of the primary should be in the order of 2.8 - 3 ohms. If it is a coil for electronic ignition or for a ballast resistor in circuit it with be much lower than that, which will mean the points have to switch a higher current than they were designed for.

But some points these days are of very poor quality.
