Looking excellent, what's your plan on steering wheel are you spraying it? Interested to know as mine could do with an overhaul but not sure what to use that won't just come off!

Yeah it's probably the way to go cant imagine it to be too easy doing a good DIY job on it! Great project though, is yours pastel green or mid grey can't tell from here!? Mine is a series 3 but during my respray etc.. I found it hard to find anything that referenced original bolts, rivets, finishes that would have been originsl from factory

Refurbed my steering wheel last year. Gentle rub back, black plastic spray from Halfords followed by a couple of coats of clear acrylic lacquer. So far so good and really pleased with results. Copied the process from elsewhere having seen their results. Unless it's broken I personally wouldn't send away for repair.

Things have yet again taken a back burner but the last two days have been productive. Side panels and roof fitted both with new with new seals front screen fitted. Lucas wiper motors cleaned up ( need to change the gaskets ) Sills fitted and sill panels and new wiring loom going in so all in all starting to take shape ;-)

Looking very nice indeed!

You'll have to mind those sills when it comes to drilling the bottom door seal rivet holes though. :)

Looks great very original looking. We're the bottom door sill seals always on that silver carrier shown in last pic?? I'm missing a seal on both doors ever since respray

The original ones were rusted to death those came of a defender and I galvanised them.

Santa came today and dropped of new cork gaskets for the wiper motor new wiper motor seal escutcheons wiper motor parks which are laser cut from 2mm thick stainless and new wiper motor seals ;-) All these small thing sure do add up.

Its been a bit of a **** week. Went down to work on my series as the guy who was doing most of the work has hospitalised himself with 55% burns ;-( So need to get the old girl in one piece to get her out of his work shop as it probably won't be his for much longer as he will be in hospital for 6 months. Any way I put out a call for help on the series 2a page and two people offered to give up time and help me. Les and Ben, Les has had series since he was a kid and nothing he does not know Ben is 23 and rebuild a series 2a with his grandad. I would have been lost with out there help. Les came down from Southhampton for 2 days and Ben travelled one hr a day and took three days holiday and on the last day his grandad came to help !!!!
We managed to get the engine back paint work all looking sharp :) 13 hr days x3 days.
The following took place scavenger hunt for parts as sadly the garage owner is highly disorganised and nothing could be found. Annoyingly lots of things lost and broken, majorly ****ed off.
We had to take of the roof and side panels as the bolts that go in to the tub on each corner had not been fitted, new bolts as old ones lost !
Glass side and back fitted, two replaced as smashed !
Front windscreens fitted and stuck in. Old screws could not be found so we salvaged screws from another screen ;-)
Back door fitted, all the hinges were galvanised 1 missing so salvaged from a pile of used not shiny but we fitted it to get the door on window fitted in.
Matting fitted in the rear tub and seal strip along back tub floor.
1 lucas wiper motor fitted with all new seals. The second one could not be fitted as some idiot cut the stays rather than bloody un bolt it.
Wings fitted, missing the three hole wing brackets as could not be found. If any one has some spares of those wold be grateful.
Bumper and front grill and bonnet fitted with catch.
Still lots to do hopefully we are moving her down to Ben's place and his granddad who used to have a Landrover garage has offered to help put her back together to escape grandma !!!
3 days of long days of stress 120 mile drive home. I walked in to my barn to wonder why it was freezing to find a note on the table that my GF who was living with me for the last year and a half moved out !!!! Fantastic dumped just before Christmas. I moved from London to Wales bought a small holding to live with her as we both had horses.

So all in all feeling **** but please that my series is coming together ;-)

Young Ben ;-)

She is looking great and the only thing that is keeping me sane at the moment that and the medication I got from the Dr's today first time in weeks I have been pain free. If any one has any spare wing to bulkhead arms they would care to donate I would be much appreciated as replacing parts that I already had but can't now find is ****ing me right off.

Good progress and looking great. Sorry to hear of your other problems, difficult times - especially this time of year. Keep your chin up and focus on the Landy. ;)

I think YRM metal supplies make those brackets you need - galvanised too. They have always offered a really quick service when I've ordered bits.

that happened to me, bought stuff when doing by bulkhead, came to putting it all back together couldn't find the bits so had to order again then I found them the week after I finished :D

Greetings. Nice job on your Rover. I have had a 1962 Series 2A 88" Station Wagon here in Boston, Massachusetts for about 25 years now and it is time to, again, rebuild the wiper motors.

Can you tell me where you were able to source the cork gaskets for the covers?

Thanks!
