Hi all, not sure if this is of any relevance, but thought ide share it with you anyway. I'm 18 and have an 89, TD 90, and although I can't afford insurance, I am getting quote of around £3,300-3,700. The fact that is slow reduces it's cost, as well as the fact that its an old landy. But the fact that its a 1.7 ton lump... puts it up again, obviously a lot more then the age and speed bring it down. Anyway, the companies whome gave me these okis quote were endlseigh (student insurers) and insure2drive. 3rd party fire and theft is the cheapest out of the 3 covers.

The last thing I want to do is drive it like a tit and plough into someone. Wouldn't want to damage my landy!

Well, when you put in your Reg, it will say it is a station wagon or an estate. it isn't, its a light utility van. Tick the circle that says the car information is wrong, and go through all the options. This brought mine down from £8K to £2K.
Then I added both of my parents, and that must have knocked another £500 off.
Oh god! thank you so much for telling me this... so this is all legit? the landy is actually a light van etc, because my insurance has come out at 948 pound ! thats a bit improvement on 8 grand from aviva... and cheapest quote of 3.4 grand

Last year (17 year's old.) Defender 110 Van, with 200TDI £860 which I had an accident in. (Bloke at a roundabout goes to pull away then decided he does not want to for whatever reason, whilst I now think he has gone and go to pull away whilst looking at the roundabout. My fault, lesson learned.)
Just bought a 300TDi Discovery this week at 18 years old. £2,000, Fully Comp and 3rd Party Insurance on any car I don't own. Renewal for the 110 was £960, but I have had enough of it and have a job so can afford what I want!

Really great to hear that! I did mine all over the phone, and nothing popped up saying it was wrong on their end. Everything has been going very smoothly since.
What Landy have you got? £948 is pretty good. I did a quote with a 1985 Defender and that was just under £800.
Sounds alright, what insurer are you with that allows you to drive any other car? Mine does, but I have to be 25. I'm with Aviva.
I have a 1989 90 with a 19j TD 2.5 in the front. Well thats good then, if you did it over the phone and they accepted it must be legit. I will have to get a bit more cash together and buy that straight away! Its a fully comp policy with my mum on it so I expect i can drive any other car third party. Which will definitely come in handy for work!

I think you have to be 25 or over with Aviva to drive any other car. By once you are, you are covered Third Party as you say.
If that were available to me, I would dump my Landy in a garage somewhere and drive my Mum's Subaru everywhere
But hell, you can't complain with insurance that low for a 17 year old.

Hi, I want to insure my landy fully comp but have the ability to let anyone drive it third party - any recomendations. I am on the wrong side of 40, clean licence, 9 years NCB etc.
Then as stated above my friend, it turns out you only have to be 25 or over (varies from company to company i expect) to be able to drive third part on other vehicles.
Shop around is you best bet
different companies provided different cover so its worth hunting for the best deal that suits you

Might be worth trying Direct Line assurance. By having a device fitted to asses your driving you can get up 25% discount for a person under 25.
