130 Crew Cab: Air-Con and Heating

I have a Defender 110 and am considering buying a 130 Crew Cab for use as the base vehicle on which to have "Bimobil" living quarters built.
Land Rover price "air conditioning" for the Crew Cab at 1690 Euros.

I'm puzzled, though. Surely every modern vehicle-even including a Defender-has a heating/air-conditioning system built into it during production.

What about the heating system in the Crew Cab. What does one get if not paying this amount for "air conditioning"? Just a basic heater?

And if going for the "air conditioning", is it effective air conditioning? In my Defender 110 the basic heater's never worked.

If it's a new puma model the ac is ok, it's a lot of money though. Be sure you're going to really use it. Best upgrade I ever did to mine was a heated front windscreen.

ive got ac on mine and never needed it, just gets in the way as the pannel fits below the dash on td5s but puma heaters are good anyway

I fitted a webasto air top 2000 for aux heating in my TD5 and also for heating up my caranex tent.

If youre doing overlanding with it AC is a must. Uk not a must but a benefit. The heater is standard

If in cold damp weather the ac used even on hot will keep the windows clear of misting.

Sorry, what exactly does the Puma model refer to? does in include the replacement for the Td5 or does it refer only to the most recent 2.2 engine? I can't find this clearly on the internet.

in 2007 defenders stopped using the TD5 and started using the ford puma engines

Thanks. So a heater is definitely standard on current models and "works well". Is that correct? If that's the case, I don't need a/c.

Where are you thinking of going with your camper ? If long distance traveling in hot climates eg Australia , then a/c is needed as much as a heater . It greatly reduces fatigue , as its no use opening a window when its 45C to try and get a cool breeze! JMHE
