I have to go to work in 2 mins so dont have time to write an essay. Plenty of info on google though.
In my own experience i've found laptops not to charge properly when running on modified sine wave inverters and some of my battery chargers i.e phone/camcorder didnt work at all.
Modified sinewave should really be called modified square wave, as it is basically a square wave with the corners cut off.

I assume you will be reporting Maplins for false advertising for printing on the Inverter packaging the following statements:
**Runs mains powered electrical equipment from car battery power.
**Suitable for mobile phones, camcorders, AV equipment, LAPTOP COMPUTERS, TVs up to 19", VCRs, portable work lights.
**300 watts continuous power with 900 watts surge.
**Modified sine wave.
Now then, are you saying these people are liars, or just ignoramuses?

I'm saying what did and didnt work for me. If you have one of these cheap chinese inverters and it powers everything you need it to power then great; sadly I didnt have such a positive experience.
Is the above a direct copy/paste ? Usually they cover their arses by including the word 'most'.
I think that list is more of an example of the kind of things it could power based upon wattage, as your average mapin customer doesnt know their watts from their volts and would have no idea how much current their tv consumes.
