so where yer get yer ign and yer battery feeds from?
The safest way to do this is to make up a little loom.
Run one wire from your battery, through a fuse, down to the "always live" on the 12S. That's pin 4.
Use 2.5mm wire (minimum) with a 20A fuse.
Wire up two relays as follows:
Relay 1:
Input (30): Battery
Trigger (85): Ignition
Earth (85): Chassis
Out (87): Relay 2
This will give you a stable feed that won't put a load on your ignition switch.
The idea behind relay two is that you don't want the things in the caravan or trailer draining the main battery while the engine is cranking, so wire that one up as follows:
Input (30): The wire from terminal 87 on Relay 1 (thick wire - at least 2.5mm)
Trigger (85): Tap into the little wire from your alternator that goes to the dashboard
Earth (86): Chassis
Out (87): Pin 6 of the 12S (thick wire - at least 2.5mm)
Put a fuse before terminal 30 on the first relay to protect it from battery surges.
Put a fuse before terminal 85 on the first relay to protect it from ignition surges.
Put a fuse before terminal 85 on the second relay to protect it from surges from the alternator.
Put a fuse after terminal 87 on the second relay to protect the relay from shorts eminating from the trailer.
