Hi everyone,

This is my first post so thank you in advance for any advice. It is quite a lengthy one so for a brief overview: I have a quote for £1500, the repairs are necessary but don't align with the fault codes... Will I therefore need more work and should I just scrap it?

I acquired my FL1 at the start of the month and numerous issues have occurred since it was purchased. Needless to say, some of these issues were not present at the point of sale, though, it is evident I overlooked some of them... With the hopes of getting the problems addressed, I took the Landrover to a specialist who is highly recommended throughout the forums. Subsequently, I now have a £1500 quote for the following (inclusive of VAT and labour):

- Link rods
- Full set of brake hoses
- Camshaft seals
- Rotary coupler
- Timing belt and water pump

My contention is not with the price of the quote but instead concerns the fault codes identified, of which there are 12. This is because I believe the Landrover to have a rough idle issue alongside an intermittent issue with the TC / DH lights (though, it seems to have stopped now but the codes picked up the switch issue). I'm assuming that given this long list of codes, I'm just going to have more expensive fixes outside of the above quote? The codes identified were:

12 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE ERROR.
8 CAN BUS FAULT - NO MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM ABS ECU.
9 CAN BUS FAULT - NO MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM EMS ECU.

C1151 CAN GEARBOX DATA FAILURE
CHI46 CAN SIGNAL GEAR INFO ERROR
C1221 BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH ELECTRICAL FAILURE
C1148 NO CAN MESSAGE FROM ENGINE ECU

P1232 FUEL PUMP RELAY - CIRCUIT FAULT
P1185 UPSTREAM OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER - ELECTRICAL FAULT
P0480 RADIATOR FAN DRIVE - CIRCUIT FAULT
P0420 CATALYST GENERAL FAILURE
P0170 FUEL SYSTEM - ADAPTIONS OUT OF RANGE

The experience I received today was amazing and I have very primitive mechanical knowledge so by no way am I placing fault on the service. The physical and identifiable issues were identified and quoted for. I am just concerned it is going to be a money pit even if I go ahead with the quoted work. Should I just scrap it?

See if you can find a garage! To delete those codes?

Then take it for a run! And see if all those codes come back???

Hi Kev,

I think that is probably what I'll do. The codes were cleared before I left, so, if anything pops up again I know it is a persistentant issue.

Did you see the codes? And did you see them deleted??

Sorry to say! There are a few garages out there! Who will say anything 😳

Kev

NB: I own D2 Td5 and better half owns FL Td4! So I can get around 95% of both! And being on here! You also get to know the little things on them to! I also have a small diagnostic for reading and clearing!

I've got a printout containing all the codes. It's a direct screenshot from the reader itself so I trust the integrity of the results.

While I understand some garages can be unscrupulous, the specialists I went to are highly recommended throughout the forum and based on that premise too, I don't doubt their findings.

I've give the Landy a drive, praying she doesn't fall apart, and see if I can get the codes re-checked.

Nota bene: As a dull mid-20-year-old, I have a rather dull appreciation for good writing. It's nice to see older terms still used.

All LRs are money pits, but that's part of the joy of the owner experince. I would follow the advice of others though and get the codes cleared and see what comes back. If you sort the mechanical bits you've mentioned and the car is performing fine, I wouldn't worry too much about the codes just yet.

Have the full stop and comma keys stopped working on your keyboard?

@kevstar may have some advice.

BYW...

You're old ;)

If you add your location (town name, not post code), there might be someone nearby who can read & clear codes for you.

FYI My i930 is up in Milton Keynes at the moment, but I also have Delphi CDP, plus various other stuff available.

The 1500 sovs for the jobs to be done by a garage are pretty good tbh, the can connecting issues could be a bad earth
or right at the other end of the scale needing a new unit. If it was mine I wouldnt be spending much cash on it until the
leccy issues are looked into. Even if he bought his own diagnostic & had a go. If he was near me I could plug mine in.

It may well be performing ok atm but not to worry about it is like sticking yer head in the sand, come mot time & it fails
on emissions he'll be kicking himself after spending more cash on it than its worth then have to shell out more of his hard
earned.

What make of diagnostic machine was plugged in, id try a different model & see how it compares.

Or plan B & burn it. 🤣🤣

Which " small.diagnostic" for.reading and clearing do you use,.please?

I have diagnostics from these peeps................

I have Landrover/Jaguar icarsoft i930.

It's good for reading and clearing! If anymore is needed, I will use nanocom at my local garage, but have not needed that yet 😉

Kev
Many thanks, I had heard that they were good, but it's great to have a first hand account!
