Test drove a 2001 TD5 CSW last night. Great looking truck, 60k and bodywork was much better than average. Only problem was that when I test drove it missed and lurched under acceleration, not massively but enough to make me worry about parting with my hard earned cash.

When I returned from the test drive I mentioned it to the seller, he put it down to having been parked in the garage siince Xmas and a service would sort it out. If this is the case then I'm happy, but could it be anything more sinister and what should I look for?

Anybody got any thoughts whether it is worth buying for £9500 or could I be buying a whole heap of trouble?

Cheers

missing on a td5 is normally down to oil ingress of the injector wiring loom, cheap to fix, but if i was paying that kind of money i'd expect it all to work well

Get him to service it and sort the misfire before you buy it. Once he's done the work drive it again and make sure its fixed. If he's trade he'll do it for the sale.
Also get a years MOT on it.
I'd go in with a cheeky offer of £8k and no VAT and wait for him to come back to you.
If he's charging you VAT ask for his VAT registration number for your records. Tell him its going to be listed as a company car (even if its not) and that you need his VAT registration and proof of VAT payment to claim the VAT back.

The secret is to make your offer then say absolutely nothing until he responds. Silence is a wonderful negotiator. If he wont move on the price then get some extras chucked in such as a load liner for the rear or a fifth alloy for the spare.

Looking on ebay most of the traders put VAT on 110 CSW's. I will make him a cheeky offer and ask for the misfire to be sorted. Want to px my 1988 CSW so see what he'll give me for that as well.

Never understood why people part ex their cars... just doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. Stick the bloody thing on eBay, get what it's worth! :D
