110 suspension am I mad.

It sounds as though I will be taking a trip to Halfords (yes, I know, but nowhere else will be open on a Sunday) in the morning, then.

At least I now know in advance, rather than getting stuck part way through the job!

My tip for this job. Get a recip saw or an airsaw if ya have a decent compressor and cut down (& up) thru the shocker retaining nuts. Rather than trying to undo the buggers.. then it's 5 minutes to get the shocks off instead of an hr..

& get new turret rings Cos ya certain to snap a couple of the studs on the old rings.

Or simply make sure you've got new turret rings, then the old ones are sure to come of with absolutely no problem whatsoever:rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D
 
just done them on the rangy, cutting disc in grinder and straight through top of lower mount bolt above bush. about 20 seconds. :)
 
Softest springs are great if all your doing is slow steady Offroad driving not much cop at speed Offroad nor cornering a laiden 110 with roof rack tho.

I have red white springs on my 90 perfect for trials but useless carrying equipment tools etc and rowing a trailer so the rears have gone stiffer. All depends on use many an LZ fan will only ever venture off onto green lanes now and again no need for soft springs for them.
 
just fit air helper springs in the rear for when you want to tow :)

If you only tow 10% of the time... why suffer with a stiff ride for the other 90%?

Been messing about with different springs for a few year now and have formed the opinion that unless you are loading up your truck constantly, HD springs aren't worth it.

On my 110 I have range rover springs on the front and standard springs in the rear (boge unit removed), with air helpers for when I load up.

Rides like a dream :)

Suspension and poor setup is a pet hate of mine I'm sure many other threads will confirm.

These britpart HD I'd like to know rates before fitment myself. The old I spent money and its better doesn't swing with me. Although thy may be great nobody i know knows spring rates.

A customer once left his motor to be serviced while at work. The 90 never got collected but when phoning the owner to explain the circumstances of the delay his first comment was how smooth it drove compared to before. Placebo effect. Since that day I'm very suspicious of our own minds.

My 90 had until recently 2 setups trials and road red white front end as it has a winch an read white rear for trials. It's a hardtop and the flex is very good.
Road the rears go stiffer and 2 inch spacer plate as the slightly stiffer springs are so short I think they are around 220/240lbs inch cant remember and the 90 has the back laiden up with tools camping gear everything even the odd gearbox. Again Offroad its weight and spring combo works but on road it sits level plus no crashing on the bump stops. It's all horses for courses no one answer works like buying a generic "kit" and hoping it works for your needs. Trialling again depending on vehicle weight and corner weight depends what springs on use as a general rule go softer is better but no point putting 130lbs inch on a laiden up disco with winches, HD bumpers and suchlike you'll be sitting on the bump stops!

Far too often we see bright shiny suspension fitted to challenge trucks or comp motors where the owner clearly has zero knowledge about suspension and buys mega stupid stiff springs which allow zero flex lifting wheels opposed to keeping them on terrafirma making it worse than a std setup.
