Cut the floor, why not drop the tank?
Well, That's 3 opinions, well 2ish. However let me put forward my case.
Disagree, it's a sh*t job. Have you done one? My Defender spent 15 ýears by the coast in north west Scotland living outside and covering between 1270 miles and 4359 miles per year to average 2802 miles per year. Needless to say a modicum of rust appeared, chassis was waxoyled but superficial bolts etc were not so chances of getting all 4 out are virtually nil

i have quite a few times ,its allways possible to get a tank out however rusted , but for a diyer cutting a hole is easier bodge ,ive seeen someone bring me a truck with the whole floor peeled back

When I dropped my tank the 4 bolts merely sheared off and the biggest issue was having an insufficient jack. Not advocating it's anything other than a PITA on your own, removing the delivery hose, breather and sender is reasonably easy - the reverse is horrific 
I have done mine twice, once because it rusted through and the second time because I dropped it on a rock, fitted a tank guard that time as well. And also helps a friend replace his.
As @doriz says if it is rust the bolts just sheer and you replace them. Same with the pick up pipe. The difficulty is getting back in if you are on your own. Much easier with two people. Try balancing the tank, cradle and steel tank guard on a jack and your knees trying to align the bolts! I still stand by it is not a difficult job to do correctly. Cutting hole in the floor might require less replacement parts as you won’t need new bolts. But it is Definitly a bodge!

Spoke to mechanic at local LR dealership. They always offer 2 options, drop tank at £££ or hole in floor at ££. He reckons 3/4 go for hole in floor. He can't understand why LR never did it in defender, not as if pumps don't fail, when they had the sense to do it in the discovery.
So, on basis that might well need access again in future, I'll be going in through the floor.

the reverse is horrific
Specurley when you decided to wax oil the whole tank prior to replacement making like a wet fish to install
