Cross bolt doesn't add anything you'd notice day to day. If I was you I'd start with a p38 4.6 block and get it re lined with top hat liners to stop the potential of liners slipping

As above, the land rover production x bolted blocks were ****. The blocks are now made using coscasting by Mitchell cotts iirc.

Yeah cross bolted block isnt important. Mine isnt. Would be a nice to have mind you, but i wouldnt go out my way to buy one. I have used ARP big end and main bearing fixings though :)

Just had some good news! Looks like I've found a 300tdi 110 hard top as a base vehicle. Should be collecting it on Sunday... Then saving must restart for the chassis and the donor engine!

Maybe the donor chassis will be good enough to repair, and then galvanise. This would also give the opportunity to fit an upgraded rear crossmember.

Upgraded RCM you say.... Never even heard of such a thing! Full box section instead of U section? I'd much rather start with a new chassis. An acid dipped, nuetro'd, then galved old chassis will never be as good as a brand new galv one. Plenty of classic cars on the road which can atest to that... There's always the odd spot where the acid or neutraliser finds a place to hide and undermine the coating.

And the donor makes it home!

1998 300tdi 110 hard top. He's/She's done a little over 272,000 miles, and has number plates with Nene overland branding on them!

Currently he/she's white, but I'll get the v5 changed to say green as soon as the project starts. Not sure what shade yet.

Engine still has the egr stuff fitted, which is the first time I'm seen anything other than a blanking plate in that location!

A roadworthy donor? Mine was an mot fail (chassis) but on the plus side came with high comp v8 fitted and running for a few years, as well as refurbed bulkhead... anyway since a new chassis was planned the mot fail was not an issue.

Pics of donor please! It's reminding me of when I got mine home, very exciting!

Here ya go

A 3.9 V8 serp engine will be being couriered from Scotland to nr Lutterworth this week :) that's going to be one expensive crate by the end!

Turns out that the 300tdi that's currently fitted was brand spanking new from landrover about 72,000 miles ago.
