Legally? and what happens if god forbid one day some person in authority does check the chassis number stamped on it?

Cheers
The chassis number wasn’t even visible even after being blasted so you’re guess is as good as mine

What about the OP's 110 chassis?, as that is who you are advising to change it. I know mine is visibe on my 90!.

Cheers
It’ll only be an issue if the OP packs up his stuff and moves to Europe... TR3a are you planning to move to France at any time?

Although it was legit, my old p38 was failed because the tester couldnt find the chassis no.At the time I didnt know either so had to take it to a local indie to expose it beneath the underseal so as to satisfy the tester. He wouldnt take vin no alone as proof of id. Come to think of it, was probably the same tester who failed my 110 today:mad:

Does that mean the Bulgarians can get their hands on it. ;)

Yep it would be legal to register here with the appropriate paperwork :) but then I don’t need it my 96 has no rot:) (no salt used over here on the roads)

As was said earlier (@Marmaduke i think) how many know the diff between a vin on a plate and a proper chassis number?:)

Some testers know the diff between chassis/body cars and monocoque (spelling excuse please) and also know where to look for numbers:)

So....he's qualified and experienced enough to MOT and pass/fail your Tratter, but he doesn't even know where to look for the chassis number?
You definitely need to find a different testing station ;)

Bit of potential problem area. Technically if you swap the chassis for a used one then you should also swap your entire vehicle id into the new chassis. You could theoretically get around this by chopping the stamped vin numbers out and swapping them over but this to potential new buyers (not than 99% bother checking) this could be an issue.
Also consider why someone would sell a used chassis in the first place (cos they are striping a nicked one?)

What's wrong with yours?

I have just been checking the MOT regs and it states that as long as the vehicle has a visible VIN number elsewhere you do not need it on the chassis, the VIN N° could be on display on inside of windscreen as newer vehicles or on a plate on the bulkhead or other area, you cannot have two different VIN N°'s on show, if you swap a chassis from another vehicle that is stamped with a VIN you would need to remove either the chassis VIN or the other VIN N°'s from the vehicle.
