Good points
Luxury comfy car to drive to work and back
LPG converted so I can afford to run it
Large boot for all my junk
Proper 4 x 4 so I can play at weekends

Bad points

Drivers door window regulator replaced
Water pump replaced
Various suspension parts replaced
Air con condensor replaced
Boot lock button replaced
1 tyre replaced 2 more on order to be replaced
Rear washer jet pump to be replaced
(Notice a trend setting in here)

Damage to bumpers and sill covers due to excessive off roading

Would I sell it - only for a new model range rover

Just bought mine a week ago, and fingers crossed all seams well, mind you all the praying is tiring me out :)

Kind regards
Jonathan

I've had my '95 DSE for a year, and apart from not being able to get low box, and a problem with the interior alarm, I'm delighted with it, and driven carefully, I can get 30mpg.
geoff

I have had my DT for 9 months, new glow plugs and thats it, so far, touch wood, get the ocasional 'Test Book' on the HEVAC unit, but switching off the ignition and back on and it clears, recently the trip and speed alarm buttons stopped working, but hey i can live without that in the short term
I get 30 mpg on the motorway driving carefully, otherwise about 24 to work and back, thats calculated not as per the tip computer which is very over optomistic

had my p38 4 years now needed new tyres so bought them on ebay bigger wheels with tyres like new, replaced suspension pump, about £800 of little stuff, and still lots of silly faults keep occuring, if the time was right and finances were better, I would get rid of it tomorrow only for a newer one, untill then I still love this one

I have had my 99 DHSE 12 months and to be totaly honest its a pain in the arse. But without this site could of cost a fortune. They are high end vehicles which require deep pockets to keep running

Had my 1995 DT 3 years and been very happy :)

Low box has never worked (but never been needed).
Passenger window has 2 teeth missing from winder but still shuts.
Front air springs have been replaced after originals had done nearly 120k

and I'm selling it!!!!!!!!

...... because I have now bought a 2000 DHSE :)

Well I too have just embarked on p38 delights, a 4.6HSE on LPG in a lovely shade of blue. It has had a new engine (one owner ago). It's great to drive but part of me still misses my 200TDi classic!
Needless to say I am expecting a flurry of problems but I am sure there will be solutions!!??

they're not problems they are quirks!!!

and you can put up with it just to drive one of the best 4x4 luxury class cars, not just as a car but as a car capable of going off road and still bieng a luxury drive!!!

just imagine how good they would be if they were built properly!!!

Well im on about 6 monthes of P38 ownership... 4.0 SE.

Love the car, drive it to work everyday, and it often gets used on the farm and offroad.

Havent needed to spend any money on it, apart from fuel! Im getting about 18 to the gallon, which i can live with!

Slowly converting it to an HSE by collecting all of the electronic parts from the HSE.

Wouldnt change it for anything!

well i'm in my 8th year of my 4.0 se
came with single point leonardo lpg fitted, tank in boot,
new engine under warranty,(in first 6 months)
new air springs,
new compressor,
new dampers,
1 new height sensor,
2 sets of tyres(michelins)
all new exhaust (including cats)
new steering shaft,
new steering tie rods,
new oil cooler and pipes,
new drivers headlight wiper motor,
changed to white indicators,
changed to last p38 headlights(was told wipers came with lights, wrong),
fixed drivers door window (rivets broke off, replaced with bolts)
fixed rear tailgate switch,
fitted chrome strips to front grills
wouldn't change it for anything else , except maybe a newer one.

I've had mine just over a year now , so far
set of glowplugs- and leak off pipes
switch pack for the driver seat
abs accumulator
headlamp wipers

but soon it will need airbags doing and a new intank lift pump, oh and a height sensor.
other than that its been ok, not the cheapest to run but with the price's plumeting at the moment, iv seen newer shapes (L322) go for 9k....finding the right spec is hard.

Had my 4.0 since Oct. runs on Lpg so it doesn't kick me in the head and run off with my wallet. Only little faults so far. So I'll keep praying.
Had a classic 3.9 so I always keep my weekends free to keep which ever rangie I currently love, in working order.
What else would you do at the weekend
:rolly:

I had my 2001 "bordeaux" 2.5 DHSE (with 61K miles) since the 23rd december, yes... it was my christmas present to myself. Was thinking about getting a L322 but the prices will drop a lot in 2009 so I can wait...

I love the ride!

I think i may have something going with the engine not pulling nicely from 1000 to 2500 revs but I am looking for a cause... I am not ready to give up on this excellent car.

had my p38 for about 10 months i guess and love it to bits, its gone any where i've wanted it to and towed everything, it has had a couple break down's but nothing too bad,

Crank pulley
A/C compresser
Front oil seal
Water pump (only Changed as i had the front end apart)
Battery
Immbo re-learn (at garage)

Also done some upgrades:

2001 spec lights
Xenon convertion
led front side lights
18" wheels
Black range rover sport badges and wheel centers
Stero system
new leather gators
Dash mat.

Had two of them. First one (4.0 SE) suddenly drank all its coolant on a hill and toasted the engine; sold it as spares/repairs losing 2k in the process. Second one (4.6 HSE) I rebuilt the EAS valve block & compressor and changed two airbags to find it was a leaking hose. Also changed the blend motors/heater O-rings, ABS pump, a/c condensor and a load of other things... within one year of ownership! Finally decided to cut my losses and bought an old 3.5 disco- changed a key fob in the same length of time & miles (touch wood).

I'll have another P38 some day though! If I see one for sale with a top-hatted engine...

 :D

Hi guys... had mine (1998 dse) 2-3 weeks .. so far new wipers, replace handle on spear wheel cover, new mats, headlight bulb upgrade, handbrake + gear lever gaiter, injector cleaner, ... other faults to fix..hevac lights on intermittently , both heated seats u/s, no air con , no/little heating, .. so its hardly a day out at the fair.. but would i change it??.. NO... in saying that i would have shop around more for a b etter one.. some one on this forum said 'when buying a p38.. make sure everything works.. twice!! ' very good advice.. would i buy another!! ..defo!!
