Hi,
I am trying to remove a 1.8i engine.
I have removed all of the bell housing bolts that I can see.
The engine won't budge.
Haynes manual says to remove with gearbox.
I don't want to do this!
Is there any way of getting the engine out without the gearbox?
Thanks in advance.

Can do it with the IRD in if you really want to.

Additional the bell housing bolts you can see easily. If you stick your head down the back of the engine behind where the inlet manifold is. You should be able to see a 15mm bolt near the knock sensor, which goes through the IRD into the engine.

Remove this 15mm bolt and you will need to then pry the engine out to separate it from the gearbox. This is because there is still a tin plate holding it in a little. Once you have the engine out , cut the little protruding bit of tin plate off when you refit the new engine.
