Morning all, Recently after buying my l322 few weeks back i noticed the last owner had put about 3l worth of extra oil in the engine by mistake since the car was on a sloped drive i assume , so i have since replaced the oil with some new stuff and that has cured the general blue smoke while idling. I'm now faced with a different issue of mostly white but light blueish smoke from the exhaust if the car is put into gear and driven, and there is a lot of the stuff at higher revs. can't seem to get it to happen at idle out of gear no smoke at all !. apart from that the engine runs great, turbo's sounding fine, injectors are good (i think). Very baffling any ideas on the issue would be great :D

A member had a similar problem after an engine change, the old motor filled the exhaust with oil. He took the exhaust off and heated it on the barbeque until it stopped smoking.

I did have that in the back of my mind since the oil overfill did cause oil to enter the exhaust, i bet there's a fair bit still in there. I'm assuming the higher revs is causing the oil to hit hot parts ?

You could try disconnecting the exhaust bit by bit,if it has oil in it I would expect it to have collected in the box nearest the engine.good luck.

As a precaution I would take the intercooler pipes off and check for oil in them........and maybe remove the intercooler and check/drain any oil from it.
I'm paranoid about diesel runaway ...........

The oil hits the cat first and can ruin it. The oil is stocked up in the honey combe sections and take an age to burn off. Removing the cat immediately will tell you if its the engine or not. ;)

Good news update, Ive had the exhaust off/inter cooler pipe work off, did find a fair bit of leftover oil in the back box and some in the catalyst, so cleaned that up to the best of my ability re fitted it all had a quick drive and all seems to be well, no smell,no smoke. Think that's the job done until the next issue pops up . as a side note for cleaning out the back box/resonators i found some WD40 and some water works well for a flush out, just not on the catalyst though, too worried to go near that  Many thanks for the advice everyone !
