My '03MY L322 still comes up with white noise displayed when I switch to TV which is the old Band I and Band III analogue channels now switched off. There are digital to anaogue TV convertors around (or were when the switch-off happened, but I've not seen any advertised recently) If you have a more recent Landy and either watch Freeview via a DTV to analog convertor or Freeview integrated in your head unit and you have a TV license for your home then you're covered. If not then your Landy's not covered and you need to fork out for a license!

Yes, that's right ffolks! We're going back in time to the good old, bad old days of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 and before. When a car radio needed a "license" available only from the Post Office for 7/6d. And "enforcement" was carried out by Post Office vans with large detector aerials on the top direction finding on your olde analoge set's radiation of "line hum".

Were these "enforcement officers" uniformed?
Of course, with a peaked cap too!

Quick qauestion: What broadcast service was the first radio pirate?
Quick answer: BBC. They started transmission (from the Strand in London) before The Post Office had issued them their call-sign 2LO. Previously the Marconi Company had been test broadcasting from Chelmsford (2MT)
Bleeding hell, I remember having to buy a car radio licence !

A demonstration and rally to protest against the continued War on the Motorist: the expansion of the uLEZ zone to up to but not including the north and south circulars,
the continued increased hours of the congestion charge zone,
the proposed charges for driving a non-Euro4 (Euro6 for diesels) inside the M25,
the swingeing increases in vehicle tax ("vehicle excise duty"),
and the hike in local council parking charges and resident parking permits.

Date: the first Sunday after expected relaxation of current Covid restrictions (after 29th March) But before the start of election hustings for London's mayor and Greater London Assembly members (6th May
Assembly and address: Hyde Park speaker's corner (subject to advice and assistance from Parks Police)

The rally will then move off in procession to go past City Hall. It will be led by a Victorian-dressed person carrying a red flag.

Good plan. Rally to bring back the red flag legislation! :)

To increase employment opportunities for the disabled, the red flag carrier could be allowed a speed limited electric wheelchair.:D
 
As there's still Covid social distancing issues -- and we petrol heads aren't the sort to try and pervert one issue into another by throwing rocks at our Police and generally rioting -- it's been decided to put on hold the Red Flag demonstration, march, and rally to City Hall.

You can still protest against the plans of the mayor to increase the uLEZ zone to the north and south circular roads (A406 & A205) in the civilised ballot box manner.
To those that have already emailed me their support, you will be kept in touch with future plans, dependent on the results of 6th May elections.
 
Fans of Vicki will be panting to know that they missed her starring appearance as an auctioneer at Historics' Classic Car Auction Sunday 18th April. Several Range Rovers were auctioned off but no results listing has yet been posted on their site
 
Havn't yet done that yet. Nor checked the manufacturing date of the installed battery -- it's a Varta Blue with a barcode sticker on the top but think that's just someone's stock number rather than Verta's manufacturing date code. This from the Piston Heads site in 2015: "there are four numbers on top of the battery post, the negative one I think. The first two are 01 upto 52, which is the week number, the other two are the year." This info is also posted in Jaguar Forum.
There's no brightening and then dimming with revs of any filiament bulbs that I can see (my old Avo's busted).
When it's a bit brighter and warmer later today will check further. There's no starting problems and all displays are correct until tbe "Bong!" of gloom, some miles later.

Are there any precautions to take (like losing codings, radio code?) when disconnecting battery. I want to see what's stamped on the negative terminal

I bought a 2003 L322, the first thing I did was change the battery, she likes around 12.5 volts, she actually gets about 12.6 I bought a battery 190 amp battery from: https://www.tayna.co.uk/ it cost £100 including postage and a 5 year warranty. After I installed it (it does fit, a tight tho') the car seemed to wake up. I got a full service done locally, the gearbox and filter (after contacting ZF in Germany) who recommend every 50k or 5 years. The forum helped me sort out the noise in the suspension. So now after all this, she running great and thanks to all involved. Keep at it, it will turn out right in the end, hopefully.

Turned out a bit moist up there. It rained at the auction as well -- a 1997 SE 4L P38 went for £8,400, a CSK special built in 1991 for £56,200 <swoon>. And a 1979 two-door for £28,000. What is it with these early Rangee values?

Well, who would've thought it: closing roads delays Police, Fire Brigade, and Ambulances -- what a shock ;-)
Still, better late (after the elections of course!) than never...
Commissioner of the Metropolis Dame Cressida Dick has condemned Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTN) springing up over greater London.

Speaking in interview with Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning (14/5) she castigated these no entry and re-direction schemes that often end up with huge boxes called planters being placed across closed roads so blocking access. "These schemes cause us real operational problems" she said. "I am looking at these schemes carefully, of course I am" she added. "These schemes cause delays to my Officers attending incidents. Low traffic neighbourhoods make getting through the streets in an emergency harder".

My Maserati Quattroporte 5 '08MY (see, on topic!) was caught by one such ticket being unable to see the "No Entry Except Buses" sign that had been placed so high on a pole that it was outside my field of vision. It'd been placed that high up coz residents and campaigners kept on taking it down ;-)

Disgraceful civil disobedience. Ought to be a law against it <titter!>

The "Red Flag" demonstration has been put on hold, as the mayor of London has "not decided" whether or not to go ahead with his expansion of the hated ultra Low emission Zone to cover all of greater London. He planned to do so in August of next year but had been banned by previous Minister of Transport from using Government subsidy money for it.
