Hi, my drive belt snapped on sat , got a new one but having trouble fitting it, have i got to take out the rads and everything to do it, cant seem to access the tensioner as its behind the fan , following diagram of belt installation but struggling, anyone got an answer?

hi, if you remove the radiator cowl then using a 36mm fan spanner remove the fan, it helps if you have an assistant wedge the crank pulley so it cant move, once fan is off use a 15mm socket on a long bar to take the pressure off the belt tensioing pulley then then thread new belt around the pulleys following photo in haynes book for correct routing, the hardest part is getting the fan off, i hads to use a lump hammer on the spanner to crack the nut.

Anyone got a better diagram than this. changing a disco td5 engine into a defender (no ACE, no AC)
so just need a belt diagram for crank pully, tensioner, fan pully, pas pump/waterpump pully. Thats it.
Seems this is closest thing but not labeled and seems to have an extra pully at top.

No better diagram than that, the "extra pulley" at the top is the idler instead of the aircon compressor, this one https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/idler-less-britpart-err6493-p-27710.html, the other (nr.7) is instead of the ACE pump(ERR6949)... both are compulsory to fit the PQS101490 belt
thanks for that.

So basicly need to put two idlers. one where the AC was and one where the ACE was correct? That makes sense.
Still think its such a bad diagram...

TIA

IIRC(i'm not 100%sure) the ERR6493 pulley doesnt need a bracket cos the compressor has one, you have to remove the compressor and it's mounting bracket and you'll see

You CAN change the aux belt without removing the fan. The blades are not regularly spaced so you need to turn it until you find the biggest space between blades. Position that where you need to use the spanner or socket etc on the tensioner. You will then be able to put it on. Just.
It IS a fiddle, no doubt about it, but entirely possible. I have never taken the fan off but I have changed the belt. I carry the special fan pulley spanner around with me, have yet to use it.
