ere Sean, you should put your pics together on a blog or website of your travels, they are really good. The clarity is amazing, but i guess that's the conditions up there! (and a good camera too!)
am usually to busy walking/climbing/driving/diving/running/drinking to be doing any of that blogging stuff - never to busy to take pictures, just dont do much with them when we get back

Nice photos Sean. I can't wait to go up there myself - my new job will take me to the Outer Hebrides occasionally. I've heard there's good mountainbiking up there too.
Ullapool is far to full of people for my liking, but there is a good chippy there opposite the ferry terminal - knap dale is better but quite well known
Ardnamurchan Point takes some beating for remoteness, it's a 30 mile trip on a very rough track to get to or a boat from armdale
there are some fantastic routes, but only really doable during the summer as the weather is very unreliable - a good rideable track can turn into a nightmare very quickly during the later months - it's also so easy to get carried away and end up miles from anywhere
fort william ski area is ok if you like gravel rash and to be told where to ride

Are you into mountainbiking then Sean? I did the downhill run at Fort William in 2005 - I had to stop twice to let my arms recover. It took me about 12 mins. How the **** can the pros do it in about 4 mins? on the same trip I we cycled over the Cairngorms and had a bit of a play at Innerleithen.
a few years ago (might even have been 2005) i made a right mess of a then brand new orange p7 pro along with my face, legs and elbows thinking i could do the race route in about twice the time what the pros do it in
was the baking hot there in 2005 ? - i've been down there a few times when the racing is on, once it peed down for days and people were struggling to walk down the route let along ride down it
we passed through there this weekend on our way home and there was still a few nutters flying around

That was brave of you to do the Fort William downhill run on a hardtail! I felt out of place enough going up in the gondolas with all the hard core downhiller types with their full body armour and 8 inch travel bikes. They were looking pitifully at me with my XC helmet, XC full sus bike and no body armour.
It was very nice weather up there in July 05
, but we got eaten alive by midges and horse flies This is a photo of the trip between Aviemoire and Braemar. We did an off road route over the Cairngorms on the first day and then rode back to Aviemore on the 2nd day:

It can be quite funny doing downhill courses with XC gear though, as long as it doesn't all go pear shaped - everybody just expects me to be crap so I have nothing to prove and then on the odd occasion that I do manage to overtake a few fully kitted up downhillers - it makes them furious I've bashed my knees too many times though so I use knee and shin pads for the hairy stuff now. Have you done some of our fine trails in Wales?
I've not done the West Highland way, is that a very rough track or are you going to do it with panniers?

i tend just to do some some short local routes these days just to maitain some degree of fitness - have been down around bala while training there a few times
from what i can tell you could stay in B&Bs on route while doing the WHW, there's even a company offering a carry your rucksac service - i suspect we'll be rough sleeping and traveling very light - we might even walk it
