accidental cure.

I just bought a bottle of diesel system cleaner for my 128K TD5 had it 2 yrs now,so thinking that maybe the injectors need a clean and all the fuel bits I filled up the tank and threw the whole bottle in !,,, 250ml, (2 shots) , 1 week later the engine power smoothed out,no "chugging " at low rev's,and a noticeably quiet purring sound.
3 weeks prior to this, my fuel level gauge failed,after checking out the wiring (what I could) a new gauge was on the books, only to find it suddenly burst into action,the fuel gauge quadrant is in the tank,all I can guess is has just been cleaned by Mr Redex. I wont be doing this to often as they recommend 1 shot per tank per refill, just every few months or so or just before an oil change to keep the cob webs at bay.
Does anyone think this is a good/bad idea?

What brand was it? These diesel system cleaners very rarely seem to do anything noticeable at all, and I'm even more sceptical when the label says it doesn't matter if you put too much in.

I used it myself too once( THIS ) and felt some slight improvement but not more than with Liqui Moly or Wynn's.

Redex ,diesel system cleaner,250ml from amazon around £5.00quid,the bottle has a measure marked for "2 shots"it say's on the bottle contact website for tank sizes but I just chucked the lot in and filled it up to the cap as a "one of"I think it probably gave the injectors a good scrub! since its done125000 miles I can only assume (3rd owner) as for the float gauge, I changed the tank pump about 2yrs ago bugger of a job,and noticed it worked by the terminal running up&down a foil type plate in the fuel,I assume it cleaned that ,its worked ever since,better than ripping the pump out again.
Oh, and now it starts on the button, before it took 2 turn overs, so it must have done something,however I will just put 1/2 in every time I do an oil change with a diesel filter change. I'm not going to push my luck!

We pre-fill some fuel filters with it neat, we've put 2-3 large bottles in with a quarter of a tank and I'm pretty sure it does very little at all but it's great that it's worked for you!
