Hey guys,

Ok so, new power steering box (4 bolt), new fluid, everything pretty much brand new.. defender 90 200tdi

Steering holds it's position, it's tight = but not tight in a way it doesn't want turn wheels etc, tight as in its responsive and does its job, just any slight movements want to send me off the road, so at 50mph, over a bump and sudden movement it's ****ting me up.. also doesn't want to return back to center (but probs doesn't help i've got 285 mud tyres on it)

Any ideas?

You put all the shims IN ! ?
You may have to re do the swivel pin's/swivel bush's due to them having been set to loose.
Swivel pre load involves using the right number and thickness of shims to set the load [ a pull of approx 12fp at the end of steering arm] with no big seal fitted.
Land rover manual says how, and there are video's on the You tube.

Stock steering does not return to centre (RTC), Unless you have a RTC damper fitted that is normal. I have also just fitted a recon box and because the whole box is tighter the damper has "less" effect and you can feel it less.

For your other issue it sounds more like "death wobble" caused by panhard bushes failure or swivel adjustment/wear than the box itself.
