Hi,

Since i bought my p38 2.5dse 1995 it shows an airbag fault.
Nanocom gives the next codes:
-drivers airbag measures open circuit
-passenger airbag measures open circuit
-left hand crash sensor measures open circuit
-right hand crash sensor measures open circuit
-harnash Check register measures open circuit
-airbag warning lamp meaasures open circuit
And sometimes I also get
-both crash sensors measure open circuit

I was told to check/change the contact ring in the steering wheel, so I did.
I resetted the faultcodes by my nanocom.
Even when nancom does the reset, the fault massages keep showing on the cars display.

Any advice how to narrow this down?

Btw: the system consist of the 2 sensors behind the headlights, no sidesensors

As a rule, all the airbag sensors get corrosion in the plugs as most 38's take on water... Cut the plugs and hard wire them with either solder or good butt connectors. Its rare the actual airbags fail.
Once done clear the faults and go from there.
👍

Too many things showing open circuit there, have you checked the connector at the SRS ECU? Also check the OBD connector for corrosion which may be interfering with communication.
Today i removed the center console to get to the srs unit. It looks perfect no corrossion on the connector or the pins. Still all original with the date stamp stickers.
So this connection is good.

Is there a way to test or measure the srs unit now it dismantled?

Obd connector doesn't show corrossion either.

Which ECU is fitted ?? Unless someone has messed with the wiring, it should not be possible to fit the wrong type.

Also are you using the correct Nanocom menu ?

Next step for me would be to check out the wiring using a DVM. DO NOT connect the DVM to any airbag. With the circuit unplugged, a loop back test can be performed on each airbag circuit to the ECU for continuity and also the front crash sensors. If the wiring tests out OK, then I would suspect the ECU. Has the vehicle ever been involved in a crash? The internal sensors cannot normally be reset after they have detected an impact.
