Is it the XYZ switch?

So she’s an L322 4.4 v8 petrol with the bmw engine. Back story as it maybe relevant, she was sat on a relatives drive way for 18 months until I inherited it. Tons of work done on last MOT and passed with no advisories and full service.

Ran fine for a few weeks then one day started up in failsafe mode. Switched off and then back on, drove beautifully all day. This was a daily occurrence until recently when she won’t even turn over it’s total silence. Switch off and on 3-4 times then kicks up and drives fine.

Replaced the battery as forums suggested and had the same issues since. Plugged into diagnostics which read code p1614 electrical thermostat circuit open.

That’s booked in to be done Saturday and mechanic said she should sounds a bit smoother than she does so recommended new spark plugs and engine coils so I’ve opted for that to also be done.

All forums seem to point towards the xyz switch but that’s not flagging up on diagnostics. Would the above issues cause the problems I’m having?
