Morning All,

2004 FL 1 Diesel

Have a query my elderly neighbour had his clutch done a couple of years ago along with the slave but when engaging into 1st gear it can be a struggle at times other times it slips in no problem, is there anything he can rule out first ?

I took a look at the clutch reservoir and it is a bit low, in saying low I took to cover off and could see the fluid about 1cm below the neck is this low ?

Its just topped up by Dot 4 & how best to top it up and not having it overflow

TIA

While not necessarily directly related, changing the gearbox oil in mine made a noticeable difference to the smoothness of shifting. If it hasn't been done for a long time, it's worth doing.

Neighbours is a manual ?

I topped up the oil and 1st gear selecting is definitely smoother without having to fight with the gearstick, 🤔

Cheap aftermarket master cylinder can cause the bite point to be on the floor making it hard to push in far enough.
I had this problem and sorted it by extending the rod that the pedal pushes by a few mm but it was a pain.
In my case I replaced the clutch then when bleeding the master cylinder failed so I didn't feel like spending the money on genuine LR.
This on may not have been replaced but might not be bled properly or is on its way out.
