Hi what it is its the turbo pulling it through the engine is it leaking out or have you seen damp patches on the pipe or turbo?

a bit of oil is common once you get beyond 50k, Its worth checking and replacing the decompression filter near the injectors, £25 from LR
If not replaced it can pressurise the engine and throw oil back up the dipstick and also destroy yer turbo
Do a search for decompression filter on here
Also remove EGR and clean it out, some block off the vac pipe to the EGR valve to stop it working as it gunks up the EGR and inlet manifold

Follow the intercooler 90degree elbow pipe on right of engine, it connects to the EGR valve
4 bolts to remove EGR and clean with a paint brush and petrol or similiar

Sounds a bell to me, remember the discussion about the exact length of the dipstick and other possibilities regarding the "too much" oil in the engine when following the book. (The right hand line in the pic., way too much, is with the prescribed 6,8 liter of oil in it.... you figure.....
)What I noticed also is, but it might be coïncidence, that since I reduced the oil to have it just at the MAX on the dipstick I haven't heard that strange ticking noise anymore when I stop the engine.

I've never put 6.8 litres of oil in a Td4, always 5.5l

Does anyone know why the entire filter assembly needs replacing rather than the small filter that fits inside. At one stage main dealers replaced the £2.80 filter, now they replace the assembly at £21.50.

Yup go ped. . . .its normal with your mileage to have that dirty black oil in yer inter cooler pipes, wont do any harm less yer pipes split and that's why you cannot put tape round em to help you [new rubber hoses always, as shutty says a lot of this is caused by the stupid design of the egr valve, thats why a lot of members on here clean it and block it off . .. .after 35k miles we also recommend fitting a new de compresion filter [go into search] also with a diesel change your oil and filter on a regular basis, also fuel filter , as these are often forgotten about, there are a few niggles with the td4 [as with all engines] but trust me not as bad as a few others, i will try and list them and if i miss any some clever twot will correct me fuel filter , splitting turbo rubbers [check on regular basis] decompression filter [often negleted 25- 35k miles] little filter [looks like a old type fuel filter ,on lhs behind air filter] its really the engine vacuum filter and its open to atmosphere , this is always forgotten about bout 35k miles, oil un filter [this is a normal thing] maf. . . .if it go's then it will cause loss of power, big subject go into search. . .un thats bout it really so not too bad eh, hope this helps you earthling . . . .Ming the merthiless. . . . . .

Just to be sure I checked again the handbook and it states clearly 6,8 liter engine oil when doing an oilchange, this includes the oilfilter but as this is not of the hanging type it shouldn't matter in the amount of oil to fill I suppose ? So guess 5,5 liter is the correct amount.

Oil and filter change - exactly 6 litres to refill. I bought 4 cartons each of 2 litres having seen the 6.8 litre figure. I now have an unopened carton left. No way would I overfill especially as only 5.9 litres came out.
