What does it sound like? My van used to have a really annoying turbo that like sighed when you lifted off :D
Can't think of much that would whine from a transfer box swap more crunchy if ****ed up  unless somethings rubbing are you sure it's from that

If I was you I'd check oil that could cause noise maybe if didn't when swapped and then try doing gears with transfer in neutral incase it's something else

It's definitely a transfer box noise, possibly centre diff or perhaps some of the bearings were knackered, however we had it running through all the gears on the ramp with both props off in diff lock and there was no whine. Strange it only whines when you lift off the accelerator. I'll give it a few days and if it persists I'll start a new thread. It's a fairly loud whine!!

If there was no whine with props off maybe a diff or axel issue?
If you're certain it's t box like said I'd try oil first might be low or wrong stuff or just old dirty crap

The other thing that happens after transmission work is that the handbrake can get noisy. Even when there's no detectable play on the output shaft bearing, you can get a variety of squeaky, scrapy or whiny noises that differ depending on whether you're accelerating or not and the load on the transmission - generally, it's quieter when not under load. These can be improved by fitting new handbrake shoes. This has happened to me a couple of times now in five years of ownership.

I'm not saying that this is definitely the problem, but worth considering because it's a relatively cheap solution compared to a gearbox overhaul.

Thanks, ill have a look at that

That's a good idea actually when I adjusted my disco one It was noisy till I fully engaged it, must not have been sitting square till it was clamped but yeah that sounded like box

Yes, sometimes you can re-centre the shoes by applying the handbrake, or even drive a short distance with the handbrake on just to bed them in, but in my case the squeak persisted until I changed the shoes. I have some expensive Pagid brand ones in now which have been OK so far.

They can make a variety of alarming noises, squeaking and scraping being the most common. It tends to be at a higher frequency the faster you go so more like a whine. When this first happened I thought I had a serious gearbox fault and would be needing a ride home on a flatbed truck courtesy of the AA. But fortunately I narrowed it down to the handbrake, so a fairly cheap and easy solution.

It's not just me, Bankz on here had something similar.

Mines definitely not a squeak!!
Mine was like high pitched whir was just the edge of a shoe catching the drum, like brown said be worth looking if you had to swap all the gubbins around to the new box might not be sitting right be alot easier than stripping the box as a quick check
I need to get me one of those prop bolt extentions how many times I have has mine off

Yes, that could be handbrake related. Whenever I've had it, it's been when the transmission is under load. If you lift off or change gear it gets a lot quieter. Go for a little test run with the handbrake drum off.
