Hi there im a proud owner of a p38 dse auto. Here she is muddy has been used going to and from farm where horses are kept. I will be using her for more then just that thou :)

image upload no limit Needs some attention leaky fuel injector one with the lift sensor no problem. The biggie is the flex plate has gone bang! And put a hole in the bellhousing. Heres the damage

I know its not going to be a small job few questions thou
1. The auto box was spot on so can i change just the bellhousing? (And flex plate)
2. Special precuations?
3. Any tips advise and input would be appreciated.

She does still start and run. Was my father in laws for past 3years. I got her for 400 as she sat with 10months m.o.t. Had started as a very slight vibration like an exhaust missing a rubber and then 7miles down the road bang. And i got her 145000 miles brand new engine with recipt from land rover at 110k. Has had everything its needed since no paperwork since 120k as his pal owns a workshop
 
Assuming no other damage, just replace the bell housing.
Torque convertor should be held in place and removed with the box, however it could be that the oil pump drive has already been damaged if the flex plate has allowwed the torque convertor to flap about a bit. Starter motor may also be damaged.

Can't see why starter would be damaged. Flex plate is a long way from ring gear.
 
There was the one bang she got turned off right away. Once had stopped was only doing 25/30 No metallic mess or bit laying in the bellhousing. Made this noise on start up suddenly 1 day. Would i have to interfere with the torque converter to change bell housing? Dont really want to get another box as this one did have a strong pull away all gears worked spot on. Torque converter locked at 52. How can i check oil pump? Thanks

When you get the box off, remove the torque convertor, it should just lift out, you should see the ears on the pump that engage with the torque convertor unless they have broken off. Look at RAVE for more details.
 
Ah okay will do is rave on here or in a section or a google search iv wanted a p38 since my dad had his lindly
 
Ahh okays pdf files will work on mobile il have a look later thanks :) eas has been done away no pump or anything left just on coils and shocks with just beeps eas manual in dash and goes away.
 
This shows what a complete one should look like with spacer (hope yours is OK) would recommend a new flex plate as against a second hand one but if cash is tight they are available.

A new flexi plate is about £48.00 not even worth considering a S/H one as you say.
 
My motor factors here can have parts flex plate 50 and spacer thats the flex plate to starter ring thing? 100 quid. They'll be new. From landy dealers The front prop did fail on my father in law so sumps got a dent in it and the selector is slightly out of alignement. Dosent get park or 1st. Going to get a 2nd hand box just for the bell housing sump and the selector thingy hes bent and any spares to hand if need be. But all was good working before the flex plate.. iv been offerd a 4.0 v8 for 250 which is complete even still got eas and airbags tempting since im on coils. but bell housings would be diffrent?

V8 & diesel bell housings are different.
 
Yeh shame really identicl to mine but black with grey interior would have been worth it for spares and scrap the shell cant justify anothr motor sat on the drive tho got my transporter this rangie a rover sd1 a clk 320
