Ladders, roof rack etc etc

Hi all

so, does anyone have a ladder to access the roof??

I've seen a few options, but nothing I like. For example......

I like this design as you would only need to attach at the bottom as the top is hooked on. However, from what I understand the Bumper isn't really going to appreciate me stepping onto it to access ladder, so what other options do you suggest? I am making my own and not buying as I'm handy with a welder and the above ladder cost £70 + shipping?? and that just isn't worth it!!

I'm also building my own roof rack as I can't find one I like. I am planning on having lamps at the front and was looking for ideas for where to route the wiring.

Well, if there is a roof rack on there??


I'm 6' 4" and even with the car in access I struggle reaching the middle of the roof! add in a few extra CM with the rack no way I'll be able to reach!

Or so say Cruz in an email to me. I have yet to find a UK supplier - but to be honest, I haven't looked very hard.

This on ebay in XL size will probably fit, but requires the supplied roof bars.

Still, its cheap and if you are handy, you could probably fabricate the mountings properly and a ladder and then make one for me too!

Stand on the side steps!
Im 6.4" and when stood on the steps I can easly reach the middle

The tailgate ladder from LR it comes with a reinforcement kit. It enables you to use it for the job without damaging the vehicle.

It requires "some" modification to the tailgate as it is permanently fixed in place. The legit item will allow the tailgate to open fully without touching the roof.

ok,but it is not a very good idea is it as it looks like you would still have to stand on the bumper to use the ladder.

Yes, you do. That is why it has a reinforcement kit. It reinforces parts of the tailgate and puts a bracket under the bumper so you can stand on it. The P38 I saw fitted with one had a patch of plate on top of the bumper to act as grip but also highlight where you're supposed to stand.

If I need to get to the roof of my P38 I drop the lower tailgate, lower the top tailgate and climb up that way. Simples.

Yes but by doing that you will not waste money and make your r/r look like a camper van

But you have to remember that the average Land Rover owner is no different than the average Saxo owner. It needs to look like it can do something special, even if it cannot. By adding the ladder it looks like it might one day be used on some epic overland adventure.
