The Much Loved (and hated) Range Rover has been in production for 42 years (43 if you count the pre-production variants). Over those 4 Decades +2, the Range Rover has gone through many changes and Model Years...I won't go into the history here but She started as a 2 door coil sprung ladder chassis with solid axles and a 3.5 Litre V8 Engine....
Over the years she has gained 2 extra doors (4 if you count some of the Carmichael, Wood Pickett - et al - Specials out there) 7 Different Diesel Engines (VM, 200 & 300 TDi, 2.5 M51, 3.0V6, 4.4 TDV8 - there may be one or two more can't think of them as yet), 9 Different V8's (3.5 Carb, 3.5 EFi, 3.9 EFi, 4.0, 4.2, 4.6, 4.4, 5.0 S/C and 4.2S/C) as standard.
She was then suspended on Airsprings, and then the chassis dissapeared to be replaced with a tubular sub-frame and more electronics than the ISS....
The interior options list started with 4 seats and a steering wheel, they then added Air/Con pretty soon after launch, then came the velor seats (nice), then a few cows supplied some Leather, trees were cut down to line the door cappings and gear lever....
It all ended up with Magic windows that open and close using electricity along with a steering wheel that moves when you put the key in the ignition, the seat remembers who you are by the push of a button, the dials are replaced with a computer screen, there are things that go beep when you park, bong when something is wrong, and bleeps when the hour changes on the clock (that one took me by surprise until I figured out how to turn it off)....
They have been converted to burn an oilfield by product, to run on old chip shop discards, and if you are adventurous enough (no names mentioned - Zen
) there have been alsorts of motors shoe-horned in over the years.
So I ask you to please, without malice of forthought, with a great deal of respect to you all but please tell us what your Rangie is when asking questions, what year, what engine, what modifications etc etc......
It is hard to look back over the years and try and figure out which particular variant you are talking about using the little information we are given....
So please, I urge you, give us a hint in order for us to help you.....
