as per the title looking to rehome my dog
he is a lab x . approx 5 years old, black and tan. fully vacinated, microchipped.
he has lived around cats since he was 8 weeks old and is really good with kids

i can't afford to move cause for the size house i'm in atm and rent would double if i tried to get a place the same again. moved in here 10 years ago and the rent has'nt gone up once in ten years so got me under a barrel really

So you moved in 10 years ago and the dog is 5? Does that mean you had him since a pup and the LL has just found out? May have been best to check with the LL that dogs are/aren't allowed before putting yourselves and the dog through the stress of rehoming.

Landlord sounds completely heartless and I suspect he was hoping you would move and not rehouse the dog. I'm surprised that tenants are not covered by law against such unscrupulous behaviour and changes to tenancy agreements but then the law is an ass. No rent hikes for 10 years does sound like you are on a good deal in that respect though.

I believe there is something about existing pets which might be worth looking into if desperate enough to keep the poor wee fella ... I'd have him but he's too far from me, he is a bonnie wee dug. My heart goes out to you having to get rid of him, especially in this manner.

he was fine about us having the dog at the start and yes we have had him since he was 8 weeks old but now he has put the tenacy through a agent and alot of things have changed to our tenacy agreement and if we don't agree then we need to look elsewhere to live.

yeah the rent is £550 p/month and if you see the size off the house we got then you would see what a good deal we got.

And can people stop saying i should keep him as it's bad enough now that i have to rehome without peeps trying to put a guilt trip on me. yes it's going to be hard to see him go but i have to think about my family first and trying to rehome all of us would be much more difficult on the income i have coming in. so it does'nt leave me with much of a choice.

My dog is my family and I am going through buying a house and had to buy a house rather than a flat just because I am thinking about my dog!!!

So don't try and tell me your doing it because of you family because it's bull****!!!

So you would choose the dog over your wife and kids?

Why not speak to the letting agents. Explain you had the dog for so long and promise not to replace him when he passes away.

Yes but he has said that he cannot afford to move house, in which case surely, albeit a very difficult decision, he has made the right decision to put his wife and kids needs before that of the dog. The dog will go to a good home, it's not like it's being abandoned.

if you don't like the situation then don't post about it but i am going to do what is right for my family and financially possable for me to do. believe me if i could find a way to keep him then i would do so. i am not going to risk my wife and kids not having a roof over there head to please you. and considering you don't know me or my finacial situation then i find it very hard to see how you can judge me on my decision.
