Oh bugger, help needed...

So the simple swivel oil seal job went south today, good news is that the snap-on spanner seems to be good for undoing the mounting bolts but apart from that,,,,

Can't get the swivel off without taking the caliper off, caliper won't come off without taking flexi pipe off, flexi seems joined to top swivel pin, next option is to break hydraulics and bleed later (didn't want to do that) BUT caliper is ****ing fluid so need shopping list

Could some kind person list parts nos for..

Front calipers
Front flexi pipes,
Front steel pipes(flexi-caliper),
Front driving members(worn),
Driving member gaskets,
Lock washers,
Brake pads,
Anything I'll need for a full hub strip and build????

Need flexi's cos all fittings are rusted and steel pipes are corroded up, might do from discs too, where's all the good price deals these days??

Is there one shop that's can get all stuff from in one order, no ****part stuff.

caolpier can be removed and tied to radius arm without undoing flex,you undo top swivel bolts and move bracket with pipe refit bolts

Thanks James but the bracket seems to be joined to the swivel pin as that came out too and didnt look like it wanted to separate. As that then let all the oil out the swivel and as the caliper is ****ing fluid out of at least one pot, I figured it prudent to do a proper job and rebuild the whole lot. I'll even throw on a couple of new discs too.

brake kit 2m (discs, pads and fittings) £44
Caliper stc1962 & stc1963 £56ea pattern or £105ea genuine
Drive members ruc105200 £9ea
Gaskets ftc3646
Lock washers ftc3179
Flexi pipes anr1765 £9ea

But I can't find the little steel pipes that go from flexi to caliper??

Will I need anything else??

Should I get pattern calipers or blow my wad on AP genuines??

You do not need to open up the hydraulics to remove the Caliper.

Cut thE bracket if you have to, but I assure you it is separate to the top swivel pin!

When you take the flexi pipe off the main feed by inner wing, how do you stop all the fluid ****ing out?

Is it easy to bleed an abs system?

Hate doing brakes!

Could be rusted together I spose, but as the calipers is shot anyway, I think it safest to rebuild the whole lot I think.

The price for the discs is so low it would be stupid not to fit new ones too.

you should fit new calipers in pairs ive fitted alot of the cheaper calipers and had very few problems yes fit new discs too bolts for discs are 14mm bihex, you can also fit vented for similar price £40ish + vat per caliper

Mine are solid ones but I have had brake fade and I nearly cacked my pants, only once though.

the only difference is discs ftc902 and calipers which are solid calipers with spacers rtc6777 and rtc6776,i tend to convert them for peoples in similar circumstances,and whatever you do dont undo botton swivel pin bolts as you dont need to to change chrome ball or bearings etc they are likely to snap

Excellent stuff, I'll upgrade to vented discs as it seems stupid not to, I won't strip the hub off the swivel so the bottom pin can stay.

I've got calipers, disc kit, gaskets, drive flanges, lock washers, flexi pipes, fluid and fingers crossed!

Is there a way to stop all the fluid ****ing out? Or do you just fit all parts upto the last joint the whip it off and refit quickly. I can cut the old flexi off and fold over and clamp it while doing the main job on the hub.

yes just clamp flexi till your ready to swap it after everthing else done,less fluid lost better for master cylinder,remove brake mudsheild and discard as inner side of disc is allways in worse condition so better without it

just use a vise grip on the flex hose to stop the fluid

Great ill get the order in now.

So to recap, Ill cut flexi and clamp up, remove caliper, remove drive member, pull hub off, pull half shaft flange and pull shaft out, remove ball and do oil seal, fit new disc, refit all, bleed brakes.

I guess I have to make up a new pipe to go from flexi to caliper as I can't find a part no?

ensure you have wheel bearing tab washer ftc3179 and i would get new caliper bolts x4 ftc3375,and loctite stud lock for ball to axle bolts

Yep, got bolts and tabs, got loctite on shelf already.

£250 later and the order is into paddocks
