Happened to look under the landy over the weekend and noticed the springs look different to the ones on my 109....and looking through the massive stack of old invoices they aren't THAT old....

Are these parabolics or just normal ones?

Excellent thanks!

Great to find something good amongst all the broken **** I keep finding!
On a parabolic the leaves don't sit on top of each other, e.g. there's a cap. This allows each leaf to work independently in a similar manner to a coil spring.

Very clever design really and does work well.

Sadly many/most parabolics sold in the UK are utter ****e  and most of the people who buy them buy the wrong rates so they perform worse than standard springs.

If yours is a 109 hopefully the extra weight will make them work a little better though.

Talking bolics again :D :D
Seriously do you happen to know what rating is needed for any given vehicle?
Might it not be a useful sticky in the series section?

Nope don't know exact ratings off the top of my head. I do know most 'British' parabolics are quite a HD spring rate, so when fitted to a truck cab 88" don't flex at all.

A full bodied 109 will have more weight over the rear axle, so is likely to be less affected.

As a side note, I contacted several parabolic spring suppliers/makers a couple of years ago asking if they could tell me the spring rates of their parabolics. All refused  (that or I think some didn't actually know... )

e.g.

You tell me what spring rate these are using the given info?

88in Rear Parabolic Springs - Pair - 3 Leaf

Hmm interesting that. I've sent em an e-mail requesting the spring rating I'll post the response.......If I get one  :D

Mines an 88" but not truck cab and has chequer plate flooring and rear seats....hopefully that'll weight it down then.

Landy hasnt moved much in 6 years, is there anything I need to oil, grease etc as with standard leafs?

Nah, para's are pretty robust and I personally like them.

Suspect if the Landy hasn't moved much in 6 years, then prepare to replace all the hub seals pretty soon. Chances are they'll leak within 1 week of using it (assuming there's oil in the diffs ;) )

Think you hit the nail on the head there mate - just noticed a load of black lines of oily type stuff round the outside of the wheel coming from the hub, looks like something off Art Attack! I'll get some bits ordered and put it on my ever growing list of things to do lol
