Thinking about that , looked for sniff test kit on flea bay ( £29) , could be cheaper at garage . Mind you white smoke ( not steam ) does come out of expansion tank when you take top off , which smells a bit exhausty .

Disco 1 failed MOT due to worn nearside track rod end ball joint ! I know there not expensive to replace and not a major job , need to count number of turns etc etc , however they have right and left hand threads . MY QUESTIONS ARE:what thread is the nearside ball joint ...

This is a very very hazy answer .....same thing happened to my Disco 1 , had to take out glove box , there was a box in there with a circuit board in it , took out circuit board ...and it was the smallest piece of solder that had gone , put bolb of solder on ....job was a good one .......( found...

My disco 1 , doesn't have one of these , however it's had its erg blocked off before I bought it ....if that helps any

If you have multi meter , turn it to Dvc 20 ....put red lead to positive side of battery , black on negative side ........reading should be 12.5 plus / minus a couple of points ( dependant on temp ) . Then turn on engine should increase to around 14.5 , if it does that means altenator is working...

May have solved problem ( ?) ...checking earlier on the back of alternator on the d+ there was a black wire ( always been there since I've had it , not a factory fitted one) that leads from d+ through engine to a large relay situated just behind alarm horn . Unscrewed nut on d+ removed black...

Right just swam to car . Engine turned on . Multi meter on , black lead in neg point of battery . Touched with red lead D+ bolt , then nut , then wire , all gave reading of 5.96 . To be honest don't know if that's good or bad . Whilst I was there check red lead as well gave me reading of...

Nooooooo.....just spent afternoon taking p gasket out and cleaning all the sealant off and replacing it......hasn't cured the battery light issue though * damm*

Think I've work out why light stays on .....I put sealant on the p gasket when fitting ....wasn't till later I thought " it's metal for a reason " ......going to take gasket out again and remove sealant . * huff* there goes my morning ....

And it goes on !!!!.....got new p gasket and fitted it ( 2.5 hours) , however , whilst doing that ,a bit of coolent went over alternator as I took one of the coolent hoses off. Not a problem I thought ! Upon starting car the battery light stays on (?) Taken alternator off and checked its dry ...

BIG THANK YOU for all the info , had a real close look this morning and it looks as if it's just the p gasket area ( waters leaking / dripping from that area ) got a new one through post this morning so will fit that and see where we go from there .
