    The perennial brake problems

Internal diameters are identical just the overall length is different. New ones are Delphi & lord knows what the old ones are. Going to fit these to see if it improves things. Can soon get some more for the other motor.

    The perennial brake problems

Now this is interesting.. Just got a pair of front wheel cyls for another Ser3 from a different place & they are about 1/4" shorter body length than the ones fitted to this car. I guess this would mean that there would be less pressure on the trailing shoe as the spring in the cyl is extended...

    The perennial brake problems

Feels like the spring in the Cylinder is overpowering the lower return spring. About to strip the cyls & see if there's anything untoward there. Steering & suspension is pretty much uptogether as all renewed 12Months ago.

    The perennial brake problems

Thanks for that, both springs are on there (top one on leading shoe & bottom one between both shoes. Have chamfered the leading & trailing edges, pistons are free & move by hand easy enough. No dirt, dust or oil contamination that might cause grabbing. Changed fluid a couple of years ago but for...

    The perennial brake problems

These are dire... Never know which way your going to end up heading when the brakes are applied. Also found that the brakes bite/bind when reversing even without touching the pedal. Springs in the cylinders to strong & holding the trailing shoe on the drum? ready to try anything at the mo..

    The perennial brake problems

Sounds a good plan & could well be the most cost effective if i can find the parts. 11" all round or just the front? Kermit_rr, Thanks for the link to the disc conversion, if i fail with the 11" route will get on it. 😁👍

    The perennial brake problems

Afternoon all! Guess this has been asked many times before but cant find any of them. Series 3 SWB, Brakes have never been much good & seem to need a refurb pretty much annually. Is it possible to fit disc brakes to the S3 axles? Has anyone done it? Can standard Defender parts be used? Is it...

    Window regulator conversion

Afternoon all! Bit of a random one for ya. Got a 2003 Defender 90 with electric windows factory fitted. Had nothing but problems with them for quite a while now, broken wires, connectors deciding not to connect etc. Is it possible to go from electric windows to old fashioned manual window winder...

    2009 puma 90 fuel tank.

So.. drilled tank mounts & got plates ready for reassembly. Cut the left mount off & the tank came out relatively easily. Hoses were a different story though! Had to leave one on the tank. But on a positive note, I’m not going to get the connectors on the sender unit mixed up..😂 Sorry about pic...

All the fun of the Fair! Also got a fuel leak that’s gotta be sorted while the tank is out.. hope it’s just the tank breather that’s split..

    2009 puma 90 fuel tank.

Good call there Sir! Floor can come out, 9" cutter will soon do that. Do like the idea of bolting the tank mount brackets back on. Think i'm going to try that on this one & will keep you updated.

    2009 puma 90 fuel tank.

Thats going to be invaluable! Many thanks. Anyway, What ever happens, tank needs to come out. My options are; 1, Body off. Not a weekend job.. 2, Chop a big hole in the floor to get it out. 3, Chop the fuel tank carrier brackets off & weld back on once job done.. Any other options to consider...

    2009 puma 90 fuel tank.

Fuel tank fixings & a pretty rubbish pic of the buffers I was on about. But I did find out that an aerosol paint can cap works well to keep the dirt out of the tank once the filler hose is removed so not a total waste I guess😁
