Quick update on this, the mechanic had nicked the wire on the outside temp sensor. when he fixed it the car had locked it out and had to be left overnight to reset. The next morning it all worked perfectly. He was advised to do this by a Landrover Dealer Thanks for all your help Graham

My air con was working between top ups from a DIY kit perfectly fine but after our holiday in France it was leaking badly from the condenser and drier. My garage fitted a new condenser and drier and switch as well as new fans. After recharging the system the mechanic couldn't get the compresser...

That's what I thought Datatek. It was fine for 2 weeks and fine as soon as we got back to England. It was only the 2 days that were 40oC that caused the issue. Thanks for the replies. Graham
