Disco 2 4.0 severe vibration at approx 50mph and 80mph

The solution to this was crap wheel balancing by Kwik Fit! I took it to another place and after spending about an hour on it and it is now fine. I initially ruled out wheel balancing as it had already been done!

Heater Matrix Operation Question Discovery 2

I found the resolution to this. Behind the centre console sits the heater matrix. It is sealed by a foam gasket. The gasket had failed and lettinghot air blow out continuously into the footwell. I sealed this with some sealant and all is now fine!

    Viscous fan removal ! again!

Hi all i'm having a bloody nightmare removing the fan on my 4.0 V8. I've done it before with the tool and with a sharp blow with a chisel. I know its a right hand thread and need to turn it clockwise as you face the engine. I've even made a bracket that prevents the water pump pully...

Disco 2 4.0 severe vibration at approx 50mph and 80mph

I asked a question for pointers of where to look. That is why I described the symptoms. If someone more learned than me could, for example, suggest that something might NOT be the cause as it would vibrate continously not at certain points then that would help in the process of elimination. Yes...

Disco 2 4.0 severe vibration at approx 50mph and 80mph

So I've had all the wheels balanced and apparently one of the wheels had 7! 35g weights on the inside and it only needed one. An experienced guy ay It's spent good hour and half on the wheels so I hope this is the issue I had already us them done at kwik fit but they spent about 15minutes on...

    Gearbox temperature warning light problem

Thanks for the reply. Oil I changed was very clean and smelt fine - I don't think it had ever overheated - symptons seem to point to switch. Any idea where I can but one - I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them?

    Gearbox temperature warning light problem

Just found some previous posts on this subject (why I didn't find them before I posted I don't know) and looks like the front temperature sensor is likely to up the spout. Anyone know where the cheapest place for a replacement might be - I can't seem to find any listed. Thanks Paul

    Gearbox temperature warning light problem

Hi All Yet another issue with my new Disco 2! The auto transmission temperature warning light is pretty much always illuminated once warmed up. It goes off I'm driving at a steady speed - say 70mph on the motorway but if I drive slowly around town or any faster then it comes on. The car is not...

Heater Matrix Operation Question Discovery 2

Hi All I have a query on the operation of the heater matrix in my Disco 2 4.0 with aircon. I recently noticed that the heater matrix always have hot coolant pumped through it and therefore it is always boiling hot. According to the workshop manual this is normal and there is no valve in the...

Disco 2 4.0 severe vibration at approx 50mph and 80mph

Hi All My recently acquired 4.0 Discovery has a vibration that is particularly noticable at 48mph and 80 mph+. I know there are a multitude of causes for vibrations and I have read several posts but cannot really pin down the source - it all seems to be a bit of trial and error. I hope that...

    Hello and central locking issue

I have ordered a replacement fusebox which is supposedly good and will swap it out first - Read the section on Rave you suggested and it would seem a good bet that the IDM is up the creek. I'll post an update probably Wednesday when I've done the swap. Thanks

    Hello and central locking issue

Thanks for your inputs all. Worryingly I have noticed another very dangerous issue issue related to the central locking. I was driving home this evening and my child pressed the central locking switch on the dash and the car cut out. Fortunately I was only in a car park and not travelling...

    Hello and central locking issue

Many thanks for that - that sound like a good candidate for investigation. I suspected it would be some problem like that but wasn't sure of the components in the system as although I have the workshop manual have so far been unable to locate a full wiring diagram. Cheers

    Hello and central locking issue

Thanks Discool. Actually, slight correction to problem. The tailgate motor is operating when the car is unlocked not when it is locked. This morning I tried unplugging the tailgate motor and found that the central locking would not operate at all. It made some noises but did not lock or...
