    1989 Range Rover weld repairs

Hi folks, I'm doing this work at my friend's farm in Berkeley, Gloucestershire. The Scorpio in the background is a 2.3 V6 (something like that). He's not selling this, nor the Lincoln, unless you look on eBay. This is my first Range Rover but I'm cutting my teeth with welding repairs on...

    1989 Range Rover weld repairs

Here goes another bout of repair to the driver's floor. Going quite well. The A-post has detached from the sill and hence I plan to replace/repair the sill first, before lining up the A-post and secure that to something sound (i.e. a repaired sill). teddykan

    1989 Range Rover weld repairs

Hi, I paid £450 for her. She runs sweet now and goes well, but I had to replace the clutch master and slave cylinders; the old cylinders had shot seals as the fluid was black. Regards, teddykan

Thank you. It looks like a lot of work but I think I can do it. I post this work here to get moral support, ideas and advice. Regards teddykan

    1989 Range Rover weld repairs

I'm using a really old MIG welder, Telwin or something, rated at 120A. The welds were done on max voltage setting and the joins on the 16swg sheet needed quite some heat for decent fusion. CO2 shielding gas helps with the extra heat input. The thinner gauge stuff was on spot-welding mode so as...

    1989 Range Rover weld repairs

Here we go with my DIY welding repairs on my Range Rover. This is to be minimal budget as far as I shall manage, with me fabricating almost everything I need from basic materials. I started with the big hole in the floor on the driver's side. The chassis mount here is also affected. Let's see...

RR Classic clutch pedal return spring

I tried to get at the clutch pedal box, but it wouldn't budge. It got too fiddly and I decided to give up on it. The clutch does return to the full up position but only does so because of the spring in the clutch master cylinder. Shame. Does anyone know how to get the pedal box out? Terra

    Range Rover newbie

I asked my garage to drive my Range Rover to my friend's place a few miles away so I can work on her in peace. I washed her a bit for the short journey, see pics. En route her clutch failed - Andy the grease monkey is quite skilled at changing gear without clutch so got it there OK. I then...

RR Classic clutch pedal return spring

Hi folks, I replaced both master and slave clutch cylinders on my 1989 RR Classic as both cylinders were leaking badly. Whilst fiddling about refitting the master cylinder pushrod onto the clutch pedal arm I noticed there's a return spring on this arm. It's not fixed to anything so the pedal...

    Range Rover newbie

I'm content with the purchase as the remainder of the car is good. It's also to maintain good rapport I have with my garage - Steve is sad to see this one go but I reassured him that this will return to his hands for maintenance, repairs and testing, so he'll still see it. I value the rapport...

I paid Steve 440 bobs for it, but he wants to swap the glass tailgate for another (slightly tattier one). I've just realised that the VM 2.5lt is not the same as the 200TDi. Steve swears by the VM engine and general press is that it's way under-rated. There's a chap off eBay who's offering me...

    Range Rover newbie

Thank you folks for the encouraging words. I've mended a few rot boxes (1980s Jaguars) and believe that the rot here can be done DIY, without having to buy replacement panels. But we shall see. I didn't put that panhard (?) bolt the easy way in because, strangely, I wanted to keep this...

I'm far from being ****ed. This is a good solid car apart from the obvious rot. There's plenty of well-tried weld repairs that can be done here and I shall do them DIY. teddykan

    Range Rover newbie

Here's my first (and likely my only) 4x4. I've finally bought her from Steve of Allen & Elliots in Slimbridge, Glos. Steve was sad to see her go but also knows that he'll never get round to fixing her up. "This is a real classic you know! It's one of the first diesels that came out." Steve...

    Range Rover newbie

Yes the last MoT was 2008 and it failed on rust. Steve claims that the MoT rules have been updated since and they allow a wider margin for rust as long as the bodywork doesn't move much relative to the chassis. Never mind all that MoT bollox. I plan to repair the rust and do her up to...

    Range Rover newbie

Hi everyone, I'm buying my first ever 4x4 and chose the Range Rover. The Discovery comes second choice but the Range Rover Classic that's been sitting derelict at my local friendly garage came up for grabs. Steve the proprietor tells me that for the MoT today, as long as the body doesn't move...
