rang them up earlier but because its got the steering lock on it, apparently i need the whole steering lock column as well, hoping to leave old one on, just need to know about by passing the electrics and fitting them to a push switch instead, will the glow plugs turn off automatically?

my ignition barrel has just broken where the contacts meet and have been quoted £130 for new one, does anyone know if i could bypass this by connecting a switch for my glow plugs and a separate switch for the starter, i.e a push button, and if so how? your help is greatly recieved :(
