    Fitting Dog Guard

I have a three door hard top with dog guard fitted. it can be taken in and out with the roof on. It is tight getting it over the seat hold back pins but I guess it stops it rattling. My targa roof bag was stuffed in the boot not attached to the guard and the previous owner paid £70 fitting fee.

    Should I buy it?

Just done exactly the same thing, I am an experienced marine fitter and enjoyed the work (I am an office Walla now good to use my tools) Definatelly replace the stressed bolts the specified torque takes them into the yeild zone by design so should not be used again. They are torqued not finger...

    Clutch Change

My clutch has just failed, the good book tells me to remove the IRD and then drop the gearbox. I am wondering if the IRD can be left bolted in place and drop box off both engine and IRD saving a lot of work. Anyone have experience with this?

    Freelander Head Gasket Change

Thanks to all with the tips and the comments, 'My Freelander lives'. In the end I went back to my basic engineering training and proved the valve timing against the actual piston position and proved everything was spot on. I striped down my compression tester and proved that it was...

    Freelander Head Gasket Change

The K series has to be stripped and rebuilt 90 degrees BTDC to prevent the valves hitting pistons. you cannot rotate the engine with the head off as the liners will move. Thats why I am struggling to prove the timing. I was hoping to have found somthing I might have missed as a common problem...

    Freelander Head Gasket Change

I have checked valve timing against pison position and all lines up BUT the pully wheel mark is 180 degrees out from the tdc mark on the belt cover. I am trying to get mt head around the idea that this would effect the crank ingition sensor.

Starting Probs After Changing the Head Gasket

The nutral position for all four cylinder to protect the valves works out to 90 degrees before top dead centre. I have dopped a little oil in each bore for a second compession check but only had a 10 psi improvement. I think my next step is an air pressure test on each cylinder which would at...

Starting Probs After Changing the Head Gasket

Timing was set by the book. 90' BTTC on the crank case two dots either side of mark cam dowls positioned towards each other cam wheels marked on strip down for position of dowel and wheel to cam I made a rule up so that all four marks on the cam wheels could be proved to be in a straight...

Starting Probs After Changing the Head Gasket

I have about 0.25mm left to skim before I loose the witness marks I used an all singing and dancing elastomer gasket set complete with shim with the elastomer against the head in acordance with MF instructions. New set of bolts 20NM then 180 &180 in sequence Valves all lapped in and cleaned...

Starting Probs After Changing the Head Gasket

I have just bought a Freelander with a blown head gasket as a project. I drove the car home but after skimming the head she refuses to start. I have been experimenting and get a good spark direct from the coil but despite a new rotor arm and cap no combination of old and new produces a good...

I have a 1800 Freelander bought to repair, it will not start probably becuase of ignition problems. Despite a skimmed head I have quite a low compression, this is even across all cylinders and a drop of oil does not make a significant difference. Anyone got any ideas?

    Hello All

Hi I have just bought a Freelander with a blown head gasket as a project. I have fitted the best of everything including genuine LR Antifreeze. I drove the car home but after skimming the head she refuses to start. I have been experimenting and get a good spark direct from the coil but despite...
