Could be a manifold gasket.....mine did something similar which i cured by replacing the gasket.

As stated...check Auto trader and the private auctions on Ebay to see what people are willing to pay for them. I rekon closer to £4k.....:(

Who on earth quoted you £600 to replace the pipes??? It's a fairly easy and inexpensive fix.....so i'm confused. Anyay....be interested to know how you get on.....

Hi, i've got a 2002 TD5. Engine has been fairly reliable and get about 450-500 miles per tank of fuel (mixed driving). It's not the fasted thing on earth and can be a little noisy, but that's what you get with a TD5 engine. For better engine response you there are lots of relatively cheap...

Good point Rob, don't buy a cheap warrenty...you get what you pay for. I've used Warrenty Wise....and can't fault them. Had probs with ACE, Fuel Regulator, Master Cylinder, gearbox.....all covered and they paid up. Saved me a small fortune! Good luck in your search......

Without doubt....TD5. I've owned a disco 200tdi and 300tdi....now have a TD5 and it is far superior. Just buy wisely! Alot more electronics to go wrong on a TD5, so buy one with service history and a folder full of receipts for work done. If your budget will allow it......buy a warrenty!

Hi all, what company offers the best European Breakdown cover? Normally use the AA but it's really expensive. Travelling down to Italy in the Disco TD5..... Be grateful for recomendations just incase the worst happens! :doh: thanks......

Thank you everyone for responding. Is it ok to have different tyres on the front and back? The wranglers on the back still have approx 6mm tread left.......it will certainly be a lot cheaper to buy a different brand of tyres.... ta...

Need two new tyres on my TD5....Goodyear Wranglers HP 255/55/18 (m+s) and having searched on the net looking at about £175 each fitted!!! Paid alot less last year.....whilst most things seem to be going down in price in these harsh economic conditions....tyre prices seem to be going up...

Got a 2002 TD5 Disco (manual), well serviced, just drive it normally, for 20 litres worth of fuel i get about 80 miles around town and about 100 on a run. I'm sure some people manage to get more to the gallon by driving carefully....but i don't...wish i did! :( Mate has a slightly newer TD5...

I've heard of this conversion before on other LR forums. Apparently its not as daft as it sounds. The 4.0 BMW V8 gives nearly 300bhp, is meant to be very reliable and is cheap to buy secondhand via fleabay or breakers. Not sure what mods are needed to fit engine & autobox, but it's been done...

Hi, i've got a 2002 Discovery TD5 ES, which is great & I love it etc, however, one irritation is why LR never added a trip computer to show MPG, range, etc etc. Does such a device exist, can it be added, where from, how much etc etc Any info gratefully received.......
