I wonder if anyone can advise me on the best way to set up my steering box. It’s on a 2000 TD5 but it’s had a recon unit fitted and I just can’t get a positive feedback.

That’s exactly how mine was. My boost was 1.1 but it just adjusted up easily to 1.4. I changed the exhaust for the same reason; it just droned and annoyed me! But now I can hear this bloody whistle! I wouldn’t mind too much but the rolling road says it’s down by about 20-30hp from expected...

I’ve never had an EGR so I can’t compare it.

I don’t think it’s the manifold. It’s been fully rebuilt so it’s still fairly clean so it’s easy to see soot marks.

Since everything else seems to need replacing on this cursed truck I wouldn’t be surprised. I am wondering though how a warped manifold makes turbo whistling noises 🤷‍♂️

Probably not worth the faff. I don’t mind the noise but I just don’t want to let go. I suppose I should ‘let it develop’!

I inspected the turbo closely before assembly and it looked fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. The previous owner was one to tinker so he may very well have done something like you mentioned. How would I know?

It’s a gentle whistle. It’s hardly noticeable when cold but it’s definitely noticeable when it’s hot. It wasn’t obvious with the straight through pipe.

It’s a standard exhaust with middle box and no cat.

It sounds like there is, but there isn’t. I had a split turbo hose before and it does sound the same. That wouldn’t explain the whistle from the exhaust on tick over though.

Yes it’s a brand new standard exhaust.

I just fitted a full stock exhaust because it was too loud.

I had straight through one and changed it to a full standard one because it was too loud. Now all I can hear is the whistle and hiss of the turbo. Sounds cool actually but it is also a little down on power and I’m conscious that it might not be working correctly.

My 2000 TD5 turbo is whistling a lot. Is this normal? As far as I know it’s the original. It has a standard exhaust and on tick over you can hear a whistle out the back. When driving it really hisses and drowns out most of the other noises. The turbo seems to be working ok and is very noticeable...

Mine is a 2000 TD5 so it’s the straight pipe one. It’s annoying me that I have to degas the AC and drop off the whole bloody unit to get to the bolts on the heater box though!

Can anyone advise me if a Britpart matrix will work well enough and last longer than 5 minutes? I know nothing else does but it’s not a complex component so….🤷‍♂️

I did wonder how having the pipes at the same end allowed water to flow effectively and still radiate heat. I just assumed that someone cleverer than me had figured out how to make it work properly. Perhaps I’m giving someone too much credit?🤷‍♂️

Oh really? I’ll bear that in mind! Thanks very much. I just assumed that an OEM one would be ok. Well, at least more reliable than an aftermarket one anyway.

The gauge stays constant at just under half regardless. The matrix has been flushed but i think I’m going to do it again.
