It looked like there had been a bit of moisture in the area, the exposed steel body work under the steering wheel had corrosion on it so I'm guessing its had some rain water leaking over the years and condensation has got onto the PCB and slowly stuffed it.

An update on my post. I ended up biting the bullet and purchased a second hand fusebox/IDM(?), got it all fitted last night with a bit of swearing and the central locking is now working perfectly. Still no rear wipers and rear window heater but I think i know what the problem is there, another...
